Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5805

It is narrated from Ikrimah that when Sayyiduna Suhayb (may Allah be pleased with him) set out to emigrate, the people of Makkah pursued him. He shook out his quiver, took out forty arrows and said: "You will not reach me until I have struck each one of you with an arrow. After that I will draw my sword, and then you will know what kind of man of the battlefield I am. And listen: I have left two slave-girls behind in Makkah; they are yours, and may you enjoy them."

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: This word is not visible in manuscripts (Z) and (B); in manuscript (S) its place is left blank, and it has dropped out of (M). We have established it from al-Dhahabi's "Talkhis al-Mustadrak". "Al-qaynah" means: a fair-skinned slave-girl, whether she is a singer or not; and some said it is used specifically for a singing slave-girl.

Grading: Its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy), but it is "mursal", because Ikrimah is a Successor (tabi'i).
Important point: However, this report is well known and narrated by several other routes, except that the mention of "the two slave-girls" (al-qaynatayn) occurs only in this narration, while other narrations mention wealth in general.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And see what will come at number (5812). It is supported by the mursal narration of Abu Uthman al-Nahdi found in Ibn Sa'd (3/ 208), Ahmad's "Fada'il al-Sahabah" (1509) and Ibn Hibban (7082), among others, with a chain whose narrators are thiqah.
Note / Clarification: His words "nathala kinanatahu" mean: he drew the arrows out of his quiver.
