Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5784

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ammar is filled with faith (in every fibre of his being and) down to the joints of his bones."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), if Muhammad bin Abi Ya'qub preserved it (accurately) from Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi.

Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Muhammad bin Abi Ya'qub is Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Mansur al-Kirmani, Sufyan is al-Thawri, al-A'mash is Sulayman bin Mihran, Abu Ammar is Arib bin Humayd al-Hamdani, and Abd Allah is Ibn Mas'ud. The disagreement to which the author (al-Hakim) pointed regarding the identification of the Companion does not affect the authenticity of the hadith, because all the Companions are "'adl" (upright), even though the more correct view is that it is narrated from "an unnamed Companion". See also the next narration.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Waki' narrated it from Sufyan al-Thawri as "mursal" with Ibn Abi Shaybah (11/ 22 and 12/ 118) and others, i.e. he did not mention Ibn Mas'ud or anyone else. But its being "mawsul" (connected) is what is preserved (mahfuz), because Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi was corroborated in it by Abu Nu'aym al-Fadl bin Dukayn, as found in Abu Nu'aym's "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (7269) and elsewhere.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: On this topic there is also a narration from Ali bin Abi Talib, whose sources have passed at number (5766), and its chain is hasan.
