It is narrated from Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and in his (peace and blessings be upon him) blessed hand was a quince (safarjal). He (peace and blessings be upon him) passed it towards me, or he said: threw it towards me, and said: "O Abu Muhammad! Take it, for it gives comfort and strength to the heart."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (3) Its chain is very weak (da'if jiddan) on account of 'Abd al-Rahman bin Hammad al-Talhi, who is Ibn 'Imran bin Musa bin Talhah bin 'Ubayd Allah al-Taymi.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): He is "wahi al-hadith" (severely weak), and Abu Zur'ah al-Razi declared this hadith of his munkar, as in Ibn Abi Hatim's "al-'Ilal" (1539).
Reference / Source: Abu Zur'ah al-Razi narrated it (as in "al-Du'afa'", in his answers to the questions of al-Bardha'i 2/ 700), Ya'qub bin Sufyan in "al-Ma'rifah wa al-Tarikh" 3/ 165, al-Dulabi in "al-Kuna" (70), al-Tabari in the separate volume (al-juz' al-mufrad) of "Tahdhib al-Athar" (667), Ibn Hibban in "al-Majruhin" 2/ 60, Abu Nu'aym in "al-Tibb al-Nabawi" (357) and (790), Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" 25/ 56 - 57, and Abu Muhammad 'Abd Allah bin 'Ali al-Tamidhi in his "Fawa'id" (8), via the route of 'Ubayd Allah bin Muhammad bin Hafs al-'Ayshi, with this same chain.
Important point: And al-Tabari said: "In our view this report has a sahih chain!"
Reference / Source: Al-Bazzar (949) and al-Tabari (666) narrated it from Sulayman bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Hammad, he from his father, in the same way. Also, Ya'qub bin Shaybah (as in al-Mizzi's "Tuhfat al-Ashraf" 4/ 215), al-Dulabi in "al-Kuna" (69), al-Tabari in "al-Tahdhib" (668), al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (219), Abu Nu'aym in "al-Tibb al-Nabawi" (356) and (792), al-Khatib al-Baghdadi in "al-Muttafiq wa al-Muftariq" (234), Ibn al-Jawzi in "al-'Ilal al-Mutanahiyah" (1085) and Diya' al-Din al-Maqdisi in "al-Mukhtarah" 3/ (839) narrated it via the route of Sulayman bin Ayyub bin Sulayman bin 'Isa bin Musa bin Talhah bin 'Ubayd Allah, he from his father, he from his grandfather, he from Musa bin Talhah, and he from Talhah bin 'Ubayd Allah.
Details of the narration: Its wording is: "Take it (the quince), O Abu Muhammad, for it strengthens the heart, gladdens the soul and removes the heaviness (latkh) of the chest." In one narration it is "bi-takhawat al-sadr" and in another "bi-takha' al-sadr". In the printed edition of "al-'Ilal al-Mutanahiyah" part of the hadith's chain has dropped out.
Grading: This chain is weak. The narrations of Sulayman bin Ayyub al-Talhi from his father, from his grandfather, from Musa bin Talhah, from his father (Talhah) form a "nuskhah" (a written collection); some of its narrators are unknown (jahalah), and it contains some munkar narrations.
Important point: Despite that, Ya'qub bin Shaybah said (as in al-Mizzi's "al-Tuhfah" (5004)): "The hadiths of this nuskhah are sahih in my view!"
Reference / Source: Al-Khallal narrated in his "al-'Ilal" (as in al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar's "Lisan al-Mizan" 5/ 98) from Muhanna bin Yahya, he from Abu Yusuf Ya'qub bin al-Qasim bin Muhammad bin Yahya bin Zakariyya bin Talhah, he from 'Abd Allah bin Kathir Abu Sa'id, he from 'Abd al-Malik bin Yahya bin 'Abbad, and he from 'Abd Allah bin al-Zubayr, that: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a quince in his hand; Talhah came and he said: "Take it, O Abu Muhammad, for it refreshes the heart." Ibn al-Jawzi mentioned this route in "al-'Ilal al-Mutanahiyah" (1086) and made no comment on it.
Grading: This chain is weak because 'Abd Allah bin Kathir is unknown, and because of a break (inqita') between 'Abd al-Malik bin Yahya bin 'Abbad bin 'Abd Allah bin al-Zubayr and his father's grandfather 'Abd Allah bin al-Zubayr, since he did not meet him. This 'Abd al-Malik in fact narrates from 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr; al-Bukhari and Ibn Abi Hatim mentioned him but recorded no criticism or praise (jarh or ta'dil) of him, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat".
Details of the narration: Ibn Majah (3369) narrated it from Isma'il bin Muhammad al-Talhi, he from Naqib bin Hajib, he from Abu Sa'id, he from 'Abd al-Malik al-Zubayri, and he from Talhah. That is how it is in Ibn Majah's narration. In fact this chain goes back to the previous chain, which is the hadith of 'Abd Allah bin al-Zubayr. Isma'il al-Talhi is not that strong and makes errors; Abu Sa'id is 'Abd Allah bin Kathir, who is unknown; and Naqib bin Hajib is also unknown.
