Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) This hadith is "hasan", if Allah wills, and this is a chain whose narrators are acceptable (la ba'sa bihim), as explained under number (4378).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It has also been narrated by another route from 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr. Although in form it is "irsal" (i.e. it is mursal), since 'Urwah did not witness the incident, it is to be understood that his father al-Zubayr himself told him of it, or that it was a well-known and famous matter within the family of al-Zubayr. Likewise the like of it has been narrated as a "mursal" of Sa'id bin al-Musayyab, by which the report is strengthened, if Allah wills.
Note / Clarification: Abu 'Ulathah is "Muhammad bin 'Amr bin Khalid al-Harrani" (then al-Misri), Ibn Lahi'ah is "'Abdullah bin Lahi'ah", and Abu al-Aswad is "Muhammad bin 'Abd al-Rahman bin Nawfal", who is known as "Yatim 'Urwah" ('Urwah's orphan).
Reference / Source: Ibn 'Asakir narrated it in "Tarikh Dimashq" 18/ 344 via al-Layth bin Sa'd, from Abu al-Aswad, from 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Except that in it he said: "He (al-Zubayr) was twelve (12) years old." This is more sound (asahh), as indicated under number (5646).
Reference / Source: Ma'mar narrated it in his "Jami'" (20429), Ibn Abi Shaybah in his "Musannaf" 5/ 344 and 12/ 92, Ahmad in "Fada'il al-Sahabah" (1266), al-Fakihi in "Akhbar Makkah" (2460), Ibn Abi al-Dunya in "Makarim al-Akhlaq" (361), Ibn Abi 'Asim in "al-Awa'il" (114), Abu Bakr al-Khallal in "al-Sunnah" (740), Abu 'Arubah al-Harrani in "al-Awa'il" (47), al-Tabarani in "al-Awa'il" (26) and "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (226), al-Lalaka'i in "Usul al-I'tiqad" (2705), Abu Nu'aym in "Hilyat al-Awliya'" 1/ 89 and "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (424), and Ibn 'Asakir 18/ 349 - 350, through various routes from Hisham bin 'Urwah bin al-Zubayr, from his father.
Details of the narration: These narrations do not mention al-Zubayr's age at that time.
Reference / Source: 'Abd al-Razzaq narrated it in his "Musannaf" (9647) from Ibn Jurayj, and Ibn 'Asakir 18/ 350 via al-Layth bin Sa'd.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Both of them narrate it from Hisham bin 'Urwah as his own words; he did not mention his father 'Urwah. Yet Hisham received it from his father, even though he did not mention him here.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It has a shahid (supporting report) from the "mursal" of Sa'id bin al-Musayyab, found in Ahmad's "Fada'il al-Sahabah" (1260), al-Fakihi's "Akhbar Makkah" (2469), Abu Nu'aym's "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (562) and "Fada'il al-Khulafa'" (110), and Ibn 'Asakir 18/ 351.
Grading: Its chain contains "'Ali bin Zayd bin Jud'an", and he is "da'if" (weak).
