Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5563

Ziyad bin Jariyah narrates from Sayyiduna Habib bin Maslamah (may Allah be pleased with him); he said: I was present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he (peace and blessings be upon him) granted one third (of the spoils of war as a reward).

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (2) In (Z) and (B) the name is written "Yazid", while what we have established is from (S) and (M). Although "Yazid" is also reported as his name, al-Bukhari stated in "al-Tarikh al-Kabir" (3/ 348): the correct one is "Ziyad".

Technical note / Defect ('illah): (3) In (Z), (M) and (B) this word is misspelled as "Harithah", and in (S) it is undotted. The correct text has been established from the Mahmudiyyah manuscript, as in the al-Mayman edition, in agreement with the sources of the biography and the takhrij.

Grading: (4) This hadith is sahih. Its chain is hasan on account of Abd al-Rahman bin Thabit bin Thawban, for he is "hasan al-hadith" (his hadith is hasan).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: He has been corroborated with sahih chains in what has passed with the author (al-Hakim) under numbers (2631) and (2632), and in what will come under number (5941).
