حدَّثنا أبو عبد الله محمد بن يعقوب الحافظ، حدَّثنا إبراهيم بن عبد الله، حدَّثنا يزيد بن هارون، أخبرنا سعيد بن إياس الجُرَيري، عن أبي السَّلِيل، عن عبد الله بن رَبَاح، عن أُبي بن كعب، قال: قال رسولُ الله ﷺ: "أبا المُنذِر، أيُّ آيةٍ في كتاب الله معك أعظمُ؟ " قال: قلتُ: ﴿اللَّهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ﴾ [البقرة: 255]، قال: فَضَرَب صدري، وقال: "لِيَهْنِكَ العلمُ أبا المُنذِر" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه!

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu al-Mundhir! Which verse in the Book of Allah that you have with you is the greatest?" I said: "Allah - there is no god except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all existence" [Surah al-Baqarah: 255]. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) struck (patted) my chest with his hand and said: "O Abu al-Mundhir! May your knowledge be a blessing for you."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) إسناده صحيح. إبراهيم بن عبد الله: هو ابن يزيد السَّعْدي، وأبو السَّلِيل: هو ضُرَيب بن نُقَير القيسي.
Grading: (1) Its chain is sahih. Technical note (identification of narrators): The narrator "Ibrahim bin Abd Allah" in the chain is Ibrahim bin Abd Allah bin Yazid al-Sa'di, and "Abu al-Salil" is Durayb bin Nuqayr al-Qaysi.
وأخرجه أحمد 35/ (21278)، ومسلم (810)، وأبو داود (1460) من طريقين عن سعيد الجُريري، بهذا الإسناد. فاستدراك الحاكم له ذهولٌ منه.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (35/ 21278), Imam Muslim (810) and Imam Abu Dawud (1460) recorded this hadith through two routes from Sa'id al-Jurayri, with this same chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam al-Hakim's including this hadith as an addition (istidrak), i.e. saying that it is not in the two Sahihs, is an oversight (dhuhul) on his part, since Imam Muslim narrated it.
