Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5392

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a slave of Sayyiduna Hatib (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) complaining about him and said: O Prophet of Allah, Hatib will surely enter the Fire (Hell). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are wrong; he will never enter it, for he took part in (the battles of) Badr and Hudaybiyah."
This hadith is sahih on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is sahih.
Note / Clarification: "Abu al-Zubayr" is Muhammad bin Muslim bin Tadrus al-Makki.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (23/ 14771), Muslim (2495), al-Tirmidhi (3864), al-Nasa'i (8238, 11008) and Ibn Hibban (4799, 7120) recorded it through several routes from al-Layth bin Sa'd, with this chain.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Therefore al-Hakim's including it as an addition (istidrak) is an oversight (dhuhul) on his part.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (22/ 14484) recorded it via Ibn Jurayj: Abu al-Zubayr informed me that he heard Jabir say … and he mentioned it.
Details of the narration: Its "marfu'" part (without the story of Hatib and his slave) was narrated by Abu Sufyan Talhah bin Nafi' al-Wasiti from Jabir bin Abd Allah, and there is disagreement over him in its chain, as is explained in "Musnad Ahmad" (44/ 26440). See its full takhrij there.
