Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5379

أخبرنا أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا عبد الله بن أحمد بن حنبل، قال: حدثني أبي، حدَّثنا وهب بن جَرير، قال: حدثني أبي، عن محمد بن عبد الله بن أبي يعقوب، عن الحسن بن سعد، عن عبد الله بن جعفر: أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ لما نَعَى أهلَ مُؤتةَ قال: "ثم أخذَ الرايةَ سَيفٌ من سُيوفِ الله خالدُ بنُ الوليد، ففَتَحَ اللهُ عليه" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) announced the martyrdom of those at the Battle of Mu'tah, he said: "Then the banner was taken by one of the swords of Allah, Khalid bin al-Walid, and Allah granted victory at his hands."
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits

(1) إسناده صحيح. جرير: هو ابن حازم، وعبد الله بن جعفر: هو ابن أبي طالب.
Grading: (1) Its chain is sahih.
Note / Clarification: "Jarir" is Ibn Hazim, and "Abd Allah bin Ja'far" is Ibn Abi Talib.
وأخرجه أحمد 3/ (1750)، وأخرجه كذلك النسائي (8550) عن إسحاق بن منصور الكوسج، كلاهما (أحمد وإسحاق) عن وهب بن جرير بن حازم، بهذا الإسناد.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (3/ 1750) recorded it, and al-Nasa'i (8550) likewise recorded it from Ishaq bin Mansur al-Kawsaj; both of them (Ahmad and Ishaq) narrate it from Wahb bin Jarir bin Hazim with this same chain.
والنَّعيُ: إذاعة موت الميت والإخبار به، وإذا نَدَبَه.
Note / Clarification: "Al-na'y": spreading the news of a deceased person's death and informing people of it, and also when one laments him (nadabahu).
