Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri narrates that the name of al-Hadrami, the father of al-Ala, was Abdullah bin Abbad bin Akbar bin Rabi'ah bin Malik bin Uwayf bin Malik bin al-Khazraj. He was an ally of Harb bin Umayyah, and he was called "al-Hadrami" because he came from Hadramawt. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had appointed him governor of Bahrain, then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) also kept him over Bahrain. He died there, so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) appointed Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah al-Dawsi (may Allah be pleased with him) in his place. He further said that al-Ala bin al-Hadrami died in Bahrain in the year 21 AH.

Note / Clarification: (2) In our manuscripts it was written here as "Attab bin Jubayr", which is a corruption. We corrected it from the narration that will come at number (6822), where the author (al-Hakim) mentioned al-Ala' bin al-Hadrami again and repeated the quotation from Mus'ab al-Zubayri on the naming of al-Hadrami, the father of al-Ala', in agreement with the statement of Abu Ubaydah Ma'mar bin al-Muthanna on the naming of these two forefathers (as al-Tabarani narrated it from him with a chain in "al-Kabir" 18/ 164). Likewise, Ibn Hisham in "al-Sirah" (1/ 229) and Khalifah bin Khayyat in "al-Tabaqat" (pp. 12, 18) named the two of them, but there "Rabi'ah" is placed before "Akbar", and "Malik" is added between Abbad and Rabi'ah. Note / Clarification: (3) With the author, this man is named "Uwayf" (the diminutive of Awf), and some genealogists such as Khalifah bin Khayyat also named him so. Others called him "Urayf" (with ra' instead of waw). Al-Sam'ani, Ibn al-Athir and Ibn Hajar mentioned that "al-Uraifi" (in the diminutive form) is an attribution to him.
