Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5361

It is narrated from Muhammad bin Umar that al-Nu'man bin Muqarrin bin A'idh bin Mija bin Hujayr bin Nasr bin Hubshiyyah bin Ka'b bin Thawr bin Hudhmah bin Latim bin Uthman bin Muzaynah (this is his lineage); his kunya was Abu Amr. He and six of his brothers took part in the Battle of the Trench (Khandaq) with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Al-Nu'man was among the fortunate ones who carried one of the banners of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he was the bearer of the banner of the tribe of Muzaynah which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had tied for them on the day of the Conquest of Makkah. Al-Nu'man was the commander (general) of the army on the day of the Battle of Nahawand, and he was martyred in that very battle in the year 21 AH.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (3) In manuscripts (Z) and (B) this name was corrupted into "Atiyyah".

Note / Clarification: (4) Al-Daraqutni, Ibn Makula and Izz al-Din Ibn al-Athir ("Usd al-Ghabah") recorded the spelling of this name in this way. In our manuscript (Z) it was written with a nun, so that the name became something like "Minja", and it also appears like this in some printed books of biographies and history, which is a "tashif" (an error in dots or letters).

Note / Clarification: (1) Muhammad bin Habib al-Baghdadi recorded its spelling in the same way in "Mukhtalif al-Qaba'il wa Mu'talifuha" (p. 24), and al-Daraqutni in "al-Mu'talif wa al-Mukhtalif" (4/ 2304), Ibn Makula in "al-Ikmal" (7/ 312) and al-Sam'ani in "al-Ansab" under the attribution "al-Hudhami" agreed with him.

Reference / Source: (2) It is with al-Bayhaqi in "al-Sunan al-Kubra" (6/ 363), from Abu Abdullah al-Hakim, from his shaykh Ibn Battah, with this chain, in "abridged" form, stating that al-Nu'man (may Allah be pleased with him) was the bearer of one of the banners of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the standard-bearer of Muzaynah at the conquest of Makkah.
