Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5348

Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri narrates that Iyad bin Ghanm bin Zuhayr was one of the nobles of Quraysh. Ibn Qays al-Ruqayyat composed these verses about him: "Our Iyad bin Ghanm proved to be the shelter of the religion when loyalty was cherished." He was the first person to cross the mountain pass (route) leading to the Romans.

Note / Clarification: (2) In the printed edition it reads:

Note / Clarification: Iyad, and what a man is Iyad bin Ghanm! He was among the best of those whom women have borne.
Note / Clarification: What is in our manuscripts agrees with what is in "Nasab Quraysh" (by Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri, p. 443), except that there it reads "'ismat al-jar" (protector of the neighbour).
