Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5306

حدثنا أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا محمد بن غالب حدثنا عَفّان، حدثنا حمّاد بن سَلَمة، عن علي بن زيد، عن أبي عُثمان النَّهْدي، عن خالد بن عُرفُطة، قال: قال لي النبيُّ ﷺ: "سيكون أحداثٌ وفتنةٌ وفُرقةٌ واختِلافٌ، فإذا كان ذلك، فإن استطعتَ أن تكونَ المقتولَ لا القاتلَ فافعَلْ" (2). ذكرُ سُهَيل بن عَمرو بن عبد شَمْس

Sayyiduna Khalid bin Urfutah (may Allah be pleased with him) states that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Soon there will be new trials, tribulations, factions and disputes. When that happens, if you are able to be the one killed and not the killer, then do so."

(2) صحيح لغيره، وهذا إسناد ضعيف لضعف علي بن زيد: وهو ابن جُدعان.
Grading: (2) This hadith is "sahih li-ghayrihi", and this chain is "weak" because of the weakness of 'Ali bin Zayd (Ibn Jud'an).
عفان: هو ابن مسلم الصفار، وأبو عثمان النَّهْدي: هو عبد الله بن ملِّ. وأخرجه أحمد 37/ (22499) عن عبد الرحمن بن مهدي، عن حماد بن سلمة، بهذا الإسناد.
Note / Clarification: "'Affan" refers to Ibn Muslim al-Saffar, and "Abu 'Uthman al-Nahdi" refers to 'Abd Allah bin Mall.
Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad (37/ 22499) recorded it from 'Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi, from Hammad bin Salamah, with this chain.
وسيأتي عند المصنف برقم (8791) من طريق موسى بن إسماعيل عن حماد بن سلمة.
Reference / Source: This narration will come later with the author (al-Hakim) under number (8791) by way of Musa bin Isma'il, who narrates from Hammad bin Salamah.
ويشهد له حديث خبّاب بن الأرتّ عند أحمد 34/ (21064)، وهو محتمل للتحسين.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: It has a supporting report (shahid) in the hadith of Khabbab bin al-Aratt (may Allah be pleased with him) in Musnad Ahmad (34/ 21064), which can possibly be graded "hasan".
وحديث سعد بن أبي وقاص عند أحمد 3/ (1609)، وأبي داود (4257)، والترمذي (2194)، وهو حديث صحيح.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And the hadith of Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) in Musnad Ahmad (3/ 1609), Abu Dawud (4257) and al-Tirmidhi (2194), which is a "sahih" hadith.
وحديث أبي موسى الأشعري عند أحمد 32/ (19730)، وأبي داود (4259)، وابن ماجه (3961)، وابن حبان (5962).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: And the hadith of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) in Musnad Ahmad (32/ 19730), Abu Dawud (4259), Ibn Majah (3961) and Ibn Hibban (5962).
