Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr says that Utbah bin Ghazwan (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away in the year 17 AH, and at the time of his death he was 57 years old.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Reference / Source: Muslim (2967) recorded it from Abu Kurayb Muhammad bin al-'Ala', from Waki', with this same chain. Details of the narration: It too is abridged, with the words from "I saw myself" up to "our jaws became sore". He did not mention the rest. Reference / Source: Ahmad [29/(17575)], Muslim (2967), al-Nasa'i (11790) and Ibn Hibban (7121) recorded it in full through various routes from Sulayman bin al-Mughirah; and Ahmad [34/(20610)] via Ayyub al-Sakhtiyani. Both of them (Sulayman and Ayyub) narrate it from Humayd bin Hilal with this same chain. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hence al-Hakim's including it as a supplement (istidrak) is an oversight (dhuhul) on his part. Reference / Source: Ahmad [34/(20609)] and Ibn Majah (4156) recorded it in abridged form via Waki', from Abu Na'amah al-'Adawi, from Khalid bin 'Umayr. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Imam Ahmad said: "No one but Waki' narrated this hadith" (meaning it is gharib). We say: he meant being alone in "mentioning Abu Na'amah", because what is well known is that it is the narration of Humayd bin Hilal from Khalid bin 'Umayr. But (in fact) others besides Waki' have also narrated it; thus Safwan bin 'Isa al-Basri narrated it from Abu Na'amah [see: al-Tirmidhi's al-Shama'il al-Muhammadiyyah (375) and others].
