Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 5112

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned his daughter Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) (to Abu al-As) on the basis of the first marriage, and even after six years had passed he did not perform any new marriage. Then, after accepting Islam, Abu al-As returned to Makkah (to settle his affairs), and therefore he did not take part in any battle with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). After that he came to Madinah, and he passed away in the month of Dhu al-Hijjah of the year 12 AH, during the caliphate of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him). He had appointed Sayyiduna al-Zubayr bin al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) as the executor of his will.
Mention of the virtues of Sayyiduna Dirar bin al-Azwar al-Asadi, the poet (may Allah be pleased with him):

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: Its chain is "hasan".
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (1143) narrated it through Hannad bin al-Sari from Yunus bin Bukayr with this same chain, and said: "There is no harm in the chain of this hadith (i.e. it is hasan)."
Details of the narration / Variation: This narration has already passed at number (2847) and will come later at number (7018) by way of Yazid bin Harun, and likewise at number (6839) by way of Ahmad bin Khalid al-Wahbi. Both of them narrate it from Muhammad bin Ishaq. However, Yazid bin Harun said in his narration "after two years", whereas the other students of Ibn Ishaq differed from him and said "after six years".

Technical note: This paragraph, from Abu al-'As's return after embracing Islam up to his death and his bequest to al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him), is "the statement of Ibn Ishaq", as is made clear by the narration in al-Bayhaqi's "al-Sunan al-Kubra" (9/15). And by way of al-Bayhaqi, Ibn 'Asakir (21/ 67 - 22) narrated it from Abu Abd Allah al-Hakim with this same chain of his (which is here).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Al-Waqidi also agreed with him (Ibn Ishaq) on this (see: Ibn 'Asakir 67/21), for he narrated it from Salih bin Kaysan and 'Isa bin Ma'mar.
