Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4944

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned on the day of the Battle of Uhud and heard the sound of the women of Banu Abd al-Ashhal weeping over their slain. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "But Hamzah has no women to weep for him." So the women of the Ansar came and began weeping over Hamzah in his presence. He (peace and blessings be upon him) fell asleep, and when he woke up they were still weeping. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Woe to them! Are they still here until now?! Tell them to go back, and not to weep (in this manner) over anyone who dies after today."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Imam Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is "hasan" on account of Usamah bin Zayd (al-Laythi).
Reference / Source: It was narrated in Musnad Ahmad: 9/(4984), (5563) and (5666), and in Ibn Majah: (1591), through various routes from Usamah bin Zayd al-Laythi.
Details of the narration: This narration will come at no. (4952) via Abu Usamah Hammad bin Usamah, from Usamah bin Zayd al-Laythi.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Usamah bin Zayd al-Laythi has another chain for this hadith, which has passed with the author (al-Hakim) at no. (1423); there he narrates it from al-Zuhri, from Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him).
General principle: Musnad al-Bazzar: (6345) and (6346), Musnad Abi Ya'la: (3576) and others combined both of Usamah's chains, so what appears is that Usamah had memorized both chains. And Allah knows best.
