Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4862

Ibn Umar (al-Waqidi) said: Ubaydah bint Nabil narrated to us from Sayyidah Aishah bint Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with her) that the wives of Sayyiduna Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) observed mourning for one year.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Correction of the name: In some manuscripts this name has been miswritten as "Na'il". However, al-Daraqutni and 'Abd al-Ghani bin Sa'id recorded it with the "single-dotted letter" (i.e. with ba'), and this is what is relied upon, even though in many hadith sources the name repeatedly appears miswritten with the lower-dotted ya' or with hamzah.

Grading of the chain: This chain is "da'if". Ibn 'Umar (i.e. Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi) is alone in narrating it, and what he alone narrates is not given weight.
Reference / Sources: Ibn Sa'd narrated it in "al-Tabaqat" (6/ 393), and through his route Ibn 'Asakir (13/ 295), from Muhammad bin 'Umar al-Waqidi, with this chain. However, he said: "The women of Banu Hashim mourned al-Hasan bin 'Ali for a year." Likewise al-Tabari transmitted it from him in "Dhayl al-Mudhayyal" (as in its "al-Muntakhab" by 'Arib al-Qurtubi, printed at the end of "Tarikh al-Tabari" 11/ 514).
