Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4832

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Hasan and Husayn are my sons. Whoever loves them both has in truth loved me, and whoever loves me, Allah loves him, and whomever Allah loves, He will admit into Paradise. And whoever bears hatred toward them both has borne hatred toward me, and whoever bears hatred toward me, Allah hates him, and whomever Allah hates, He will cast into the Fire of Hell."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Hadith Grading

Grading of the chain: This chain is not "qawi" (strong).
Defect ('illah): The reason for this is "Abu al-Hasan Muhammad bin al-Hasan al-Sabi'i". Most probably he is "Ibn Sama'ah al-Hadrami al-Kufi", whose biography is in "Tarikh Baghdad" (2/ 584). Although several huffaz narrated from him, al-Daraqutni said about him: "laysa bi-l-qawi" (he is not strong). We say that he is also alone (mutafarrid) in narrating this hadith with this chain.
Details of the narration: Yahya bin 'Abd al-Hamid al-Himmani narrated it from Qays bin al-Rabi', from Muhammad bin Rustam, from Zadhan, from Salman al-Farisi. This version seems more likely correct (ashbah), and Allah knows best.
Criticism and praise of narrators: Even if this chain is correct, both Yahya al-Himmani and Qays bin al-Rabi' are not "strong". Moreover, Muhammad bin Rustam (who is Abu al-Samit al-Dabbi) is known neither for probity ('adalah) nor for any criticism (i.e. his condition is unknown), and he too is alone in this narration.
Source / References: This hadith of Salman al-Farisi was transmitted by Abu Bakr al-Nasibi in his "Fawa'id" (116), al-Tabarani in "al-Mu'jam al-Kabir" (2655), Abu Nu'aym in "Ma'rifat al-Sahabah" (1797) and "Akhbar Asbahan" (1/ 56), and Ibn 'Asakir in "Tarikh Dimashq" (14/ 155-156), through various routes from Yahya bin 'Abd al-Hamid al-Himmani.
Reference: See the next hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), which comes with the author under no. (4855).
Important point: It is authentically established from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about al-Hasan bin 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both): "O Allah, I love him, so love him, and love whoever loves him." This narration will also come with the author under no. (4847).
