It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Wa'il that Abdullah bin al-Kawwa', Shabath bin Rib'i and some other people with them separated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) after his return from Siffin to Kufah, because Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had strongly condemned them for reviling Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and the other Companions after them. So those people opposed him and rose up against him. Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) went out to them, argued with them with proofs, and returned without fighting.
Imam al-Hakim says that in the narration of Abu Ishaq al-Fazari from Shu'bah there are some additional words, among which this oath of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) is also mentioned: "I will not live with you in this city until I meet Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."

Grading: Its narrators are "thiqah", Technical note / Defect ('illah): but the reason given in this report for those people (the Kharijites) separating from 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) after Siffin, namely that 'Ali had forbidden them from reviling Abu Bakr and 'Umar, is not known in their (the Kharijites') creed. Rather, what is known about the Kharijites is that they revered Abu Bakr and 'Umar, as is established in the statement of al-Zubayr bin al-'Awwam to his son 'Abd Allah bin al-Zubayr, which Ibn 'Asakir (39/ 497) reported with a "hasan chain". As for those who attack Abu Bakr and 'Umar, they are the "Rafidah", not the "Kharijites". Important point: Moreover, 'Abd Allah bin al-Kawwa' and Shabath bin Rib'i are among those whose retraction and repentance from the view of the Kharijites is established.
Grading: Its narrators are "thiqah". Note: Perhaps this narration is in the part of his book "al-Siyar" that has not been found.
