It is narrated from Amr al-Asamm that I said to Sayyiduna al-Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both): "These Shi'ah claim that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) will be raised again (in this world) before the Day of Resurrection." He said: "They have lied. By Allah, they are not (true) Shi'ah. Had we known that he would return, we would not have married off his widows, nor divided his inheritance among ourselves."

Grading: Its chain is "hasan" because of 'Amr al-Asamm (he is also called 'Amr bin al-Asamm and 'Amr bin 'Abd Allah bin al-Asamm). He is one of the senior Successors and narrates from 'Ali, Ibn Mas'ud, Masruq and al-Hasan bin 'Ali. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat" and said: "The people of Kufa narrated from him." Ibn al-Athir said in "Usd al-Ghabah" (3/ 746): "He lived in the Jahiliyyah." Identification of the narrator: Abu Ishaq: he is 'Amr bin 'Abd Allah al-Sabi'i. Reference / Source: Abu al-Qasim al-Baghawi narrated it in "al-Ja'diyyat" (2523), and via him Ibn 'Asakir (42/ 588); and Abu Bakr al-Qati'i in his additions to "Fada'il al-Sahabah" (1128) from 'Abd Allah bin al-Hasan al-Harrani; both of them (al-Baghawi and 'Abd Allah bin al-Hasan) narrate it from 'Ali bin al-Ja'd, with this chain. Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd (6/ 379), Harb bin Isma'il in "al-Masa'il" (3/ 1181) and al-Ajurri in "al-Shari'ah" (2016) narrated it via several routes from Zuhayr bin Mu'awiyah. Reference / Source: Ibn Sa'd (3/ 37) and al-Baladhuri in "Ansab al-Ashraf" (3/ 261) narrated it via Hajjaj bin Artah; and Ibn Sa'd (3/ 37) and Ibn 'Asakir via Mutarrif bin Tarif; both of them narrate it from Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i, with this chain. Reference / Source: 'Abd Allah bin Ahmad narrated it in his additions to the "Musnad" (2/ 1266) from 'Uthman bin Abi Shaybah, from Sharik al-Nakha'i, from Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i, from 'Asim bin Damrah, from al-Hasan bin 'Ali. Technical note / Defect ('illah): In this narration the teacher of Abu Ishaq is named "'Asim bin Damrah" (who is one of the well-known companions of 'Ali). Preponderant view: But the "correct" position is that the teacher of Abu Ishaq in this report is "'Amr bin al-Asamm", as Zuhayr bin Mu'awiyah, Mutarrif bin Tarif and Hajjaj bin Artah narrated it from Abu Ishaq. Note: A similar narration, from the statement of Ibn 'Abbas, refuting those who believe in the "raj'ah" (return to the world) of 'Ali, has passed at no. (3087) with a "sahih chain".
