Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 458

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever performs ablution and performs it well, then prays two rak'ahs in such a state that he does not wander (into any worldly matter) in them, his past sins are forgiven."
Imam al-Hakim says that this is an error (wahm) of Muhammad bin Aban, because he is a weak narrator, whereas Muslim used Hisham bin Sa'd as evidence (whose narration has already passed at number 456).

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits

Note / Clarification: In the original manuscripts there is a blank space here that could not be made out, and al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar did not mention this hadith in "Ithaf al-Maharah".

Grading: Through this route the chain is da'if (weak) because of Muhammad bin Aban (Ibn Salih al-Qurashi al-Kufi); he has a biography in al-Dhahabi's "Mizan al-I'tidal".
Grading: This hadith is established as sahih from 'Uqbah bin 'Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) through routes other than that of 'Ata' bin Yasar.
Details of the narration: Imam Ahmad at 28/ (17314), (17393) and (17449), Muslim (234), Abu Dawud (169), (170) and (906), and al-Nasa'i (177) recorded it through various routes from 'Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) as marfu': "There is no Muslim who performs wudu' and does it well, then stands and prays two rak'ahs, turning to them with his heart and his face, except that Paradise becomes obligatory for him." This wording is Muslim's, and some narrators mention in it a story of 'Uqbah (may Allah be pleased with him) with 'Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him).
Important point: For more detail, see the hadith that will come later with the author (al-Hakim) at number (3550).
