أخبرني عبد الله الله بن محمد بن إسحاق الخُزاعي بمكة، حَدَّثَنَا أبو يحيى بن أبي مَسَرّة، حَدَّثَنَا عبد الله بن يزيد المُقرئ، حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوة بن شُرَيح، عن بكر بن عمرو، عن مِشْرَح بن هاعَان، عن عُقبة بن عامر قال: سمعتُ رسول الله ﷺ يقول: "لو كان بَعدي، نبيٌّ لكان عمرَ بنَ الخطاب" (1).
هذا حديث صحيح الإسناد، ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "If there were to be a prophet after me, it would be Umar bin al-Khattab."
This hadith has an authentic (sahih) chain, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

(1) إسناده حسن من أجل بكر بن عمرو - وهو المعافري - ومِشْرح بن هاعان.
Grading: Its chain is hasan because of Bakr bin Amr (al-Ma'afiri) and Mishrah bin Ha'an.
وأخرجه أحمد 28/ (17405) عن أبي عبد الرحمن عبد الله بن يزيد المقرئ، بهذا الإسناد.

وأخرجه الترمذي (3686) عن سلمة بن شبيب، عن عبد الله بن يزيد المقرئ، به وقال: هذا حديث حسن غريب.
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi recorded it (3686) from Salamah bin Shabib, from Abd Allah bin Yazid al-Muqri', in the same way, and said: This hadith is hasan gharib.
