حدثنا أبو بكر بن إسحاق، أخبرنا عبد الله بن أحمد بن حنبل، حدثنا إبراهيم بن إسماعيل بن يحيى بن سَلَمة بن كُهيل، حدثنا أبي، عن أبيه، عن سلمة، عن أبي الزَّعْراء، عن عبد الله بن مسعود قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: "اقتدُوا باللذَين من بَعدي أبي بكرٍ وعُمر، واهتَدُوا بهدي عمّار، وتَمسَّكوا بعَهْد ابن مسعود" (1).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After me, follow these two: Abu Bakr and Umar; take guidance from the way of Ammar; and hold firmly to the covenant of Ibn Mas'ud."

(1) إسناده واهٍ كما قال الذهبي في "تلخيصه"، وذلك من أجل إسماعيل بن يحيى وأبيه يحيى، فهما متروكان، وإبراهيم بن إسماعيل ضعيف. أبو الزَّعْراء: هو عبد الله بن هانئ الكندي.
Grading: Its chain is "wahin" (extremely feeble) (as al-Dhahabi said in al-Talkhis). The reason is Isma'il bin Yahya and his father Yahya; both of them are "matruk" (abandoned). And Ibrahim bin Isma'il is weak. Abu al-Za'ra': he is Abd Allah bin Hani' al-Kindi.
وأخرجه الترمذي (3805) عن إبراهيم بن إسماعيل، بهذا الإسناد. وقال غريب من هذا الوجه من حديث ابن مسعود، لا نعرفه إلَّا من حديث يحيى بن سلمة بن كُهيل، ويحيى بن سَلَمة يُضعَّف في الحديث.
Reference / Source: Al-Tirmidhi (3805) recorded it from Ibrahim bin Isma'il with this same chain and said: It is "gharib" through this route as a hadith of Ibn Mas'ud; we know it only as a hadith of Yahya bin Salamah bin Kuhayl, and Yahya bin Salamah is considered weak in hadith.
وله طريق أخرى عند الطبراني في "الأوسط" (7177) من طريق عمرو بن زياد الباهلي، عن ابن المبارك، عن سفيان، عن سلمة بن كهيل، به. لكن عمرو بن زياد متهم بوضع الحديث، فلا اعتداد بهذه الطريق.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): It has another route in al-Tabarani (al-Awsat 7177) via Amr bin Ziyad al-Bahili > Ibn al-Mubarak > Sufyan > Salamah bin Kuhayl, but Amr bin Ziyad is accused of fabricating hadith, so this route carries no weight.
ويغني عنه حديث حذيفة بن اليمان الذي قبله.
Important point: The previous hadith of Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman makes this one unnecessary.
