Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4495

(2) إسناده صحيح كهمس: هو ابن الحسن، ويحيى هو ابن سعيد القطان، ومسدَّد: هو ابن مُسَرْهَد.
Grading: Its chain is "sahih".
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Kahmas: he is Ibn al-Hasan. Yahya: he is Ibn Sa'id al-Qattan. Musaddad: he is Ibn Musarhad.
وأخرجه أحمد 43 / (26046) عن أبي عُبيدة عبد الواحد بن واصل الحدّاد، عن كهمس، عن عبد الله بن شقيق قال: قلت لعائشة: أيّ الناس كان أحبَّ إلى رسول الله ﷺ؟ قالت: عائشة، قلت: فمن الرجال؟ قالت: أبوها. كذا رواه أبو عُبيدة الحدّاد بهذا اللفظ مخالفًا فيه لفظ يحيى بن سعيد القطّان، والأشبه فيه لفظ يحيى القطان، لموافقة لفظه للفظ سعيد بن إياس الجَريري عن عبد الله بن شَقيق.
Reference / Source: Ahmad 43/(26046) recorded it via Abu Ubaydah Abd al-Wahid bin Wasil al-Haddad > Kahmas > Abd Allah bin Shaqiq, who said: I asked A'ishah: Who among people was most beloved to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? She said: "A'ishah." I said: And from among the men? She said: "Her (A'ishah's) father."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Abu Ubaydah al-Haddad narrated it with wording that differs from the wording of Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan. The wording of Yahya al-Qattan is the more likely one (ashbah), because it agrees with the narration of Sa'id bin Iyas al-Jurayri from Abd Allah bin Shaqiq.
فقد أخرجه أحمد 43/ (25829)، والترمذي (3657) من طريق إسماعيل بن إبراهيم - وهو ابن عُليّة - وأحمد (25829) عن يزيد بن هارون، وابن ماجه (102) من طريق أبي أسامة حماد بن أسامة، والنسائي (8144) من طريق عبد الوارث بن سعيد أربعتهم عن سعيد بن إياس الجَريري، عن عبد الله بن شقيق عن عائشة. كلفظ يحيى القطّان سواء. وقال الترمذي: حديث حسن صحيح.
Reference / Source: Thus Ahmad (25829) and al-Tirmidhi (3657) recorded it via Isma'il bin Ibrahim (Ibn Ulayyah), Ahmad also from Yazid bin Harun, Ibn Majah (102) from Abu Usamah Hammad bin Usamah, and al-Nasa'i (8144) from Abd al-Warith bin Sa'id. All four narrate it from Sa'id bin Iyas al-Jurayri > Abd Allah bin Shaqiq > A'ishah. Their wording is exactly like that of Yahya al-Qattan. Al-Tirmidhi said: The hadith is hasan sahih.
وأخرج ابن حبان (6998) من طريق حماد بن سَلَمة، عن سعيد الجريري، عن عبد الله بن شقيق، عن عمرو بن العاص قال: قيل: يا رسول الله أيُّ الناس أحب إليك؟ قال: "عائشة"، قيل: مِن الرجال؟ قال: "أبو بكر"، قيل: ثم مَن؟ قال: "عمر"، قيل: ثم مَن؟ قال: "أبو عبيدة بن الجرّاح". كذا رواه حماد بن سلمة مخالفًا فيه سائر أصحاب الجَريري في إسناده ومتنه، وهو وهم، وحماد وإن كان سمع من الجَريري قبل اختلاطه فإنَّ ابن عُليَّة أيضًا وعبد الوارث بن سعيد ممَّن سمع من الجَريري قبل اختلاطه كذلك، فروايتهما مع مَن وافقهما أرجح من رواية حماد بن سَلَمة هذه التي خالف فيها.
Reference / Source: Ibn Hibban (6998) recorded via Hammad bin Salamah > Sa'id al-Jurayri > Abd Allah bin Shaqiq > Amr bin al-As that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked: Who is most beloved to you? He said: "A'ishah." It was asked: From among the men? He said: "Abu Bakr." Then who? He said: "Umar." Then who? He said: "Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah."
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Hammad bin Salamah narrated it contrary to all the other students of al-Jurayri in both chain and text (making it a narration of Amr bin al-As instead of A'ishah), and this is an "error". Even though Hammad heard from al-Jurayri before his memory deteriorated (ikhtilat), Ibn Ulayyah and Abd al-Warith also heard from him before his deterioration, so their narration, together with those who agree with them, is preferable to Hammad's divergent narration.
وهو ثابت صحيح عن عمرو بن العاص لكن من غير هذا الوجه، فقد أخرجه أحمد 29 / (17811)، والبخاري (3662)، ومسلم (2384) وغيرهم من طريق أبي عثمان النَّهدي، عن عمرو بن العاص: أنَّ رسول الله ﷺ بعثه على جيش ذات السلاسل قال: فأتيتُه فقلتُ: أيُّ الناس أحب إليك؟ قال: "عائشة" قلت: مِن الرجال؟ قال: "أبوها" قلت: ثم من؟ قال: "عمر" فعدَّ رجالًا.
Important point: This hadith is established and sahih from Amr bin al-As, but not through this chain; rather, Ahmad (17811), al-Bukhari (3662), Muslim (2384) and others recorded it via Abu Uthman al-Nahdi > Amr bin al-As. (In it Amr bin al-As says that on the occasion of Dhat al-Salasil he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he gave this same answer.)
وكذلك أخرجه الترمذي (3886)، والنسائي (8052)، وابن حبان (4540) و (7106) من طريق قيس بن أبي حازم، عن عمرو بن العاص، لكن دون ذكر عمر.
Reference / Source: Likewise, al-Tirmidhi (3886), al-Nasa'i (8052) and Ibn Hibban (4540, 7106) recorded it via Qays bin Abi Hazim > Amr bin al-As, but without mention of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).
