حدثني علي بن حَمْشَاذَ العَدْل، حدثنا بشر بن موسى، حدثنا الحُميدي، حدثنا سفيان، حدثني هشام بن عُرْوة، عن أبيه، عن عائشة أنها قالت: سألني أبو بكر: في كم كفَّنتُم رسولَ الله ﷺ؟ فقلت: في ثلاثةِ أثوابٍ، قال: ففيها فكفِّنوني (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين ولم يُخرجاه.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked me: In how many garments did you shroud the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? I said: In three garments. He said: Then shroud me too in the same number of garments.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs, but they did not record it.

(1) إسناده صحيح. الحميدي: هو عبد الله بن الزبير المكِّي، وسفيان: هو ابن عيينة، وعروة: هو ابن الزُّبير بن العوّام.
Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Humaydi: he is 'Abd Allah bin al-Zubayr al-Makki. Sufyan: he is Ibn 'Uyaynah. 'Urwah: he is Ibn al-Zubayr bin al-'Awwam.
وأخرجه أحمد 41 / (24869) من طريق عبد الرحمن بن أبي الزِّناد، والبخاري (1387) من طريق وُهَيب بن خالد، كلاهما عن هشام بن عُرْوة به. لكن بينت عائشة وصف هذه الأثواب فقالت: في ثلاثة أثواب بيض سَحُولية ليس فيها قميص ولا عمامة زاد ابن أبي الزناد في روايته: جُدُد يمانية. وزاد كلاهما في خبر عائشة نحو الزيادة الواردة في رواية عبد الرحيم بن سليمان عن هشام بن عروة الآتية بعد هذه.
Reference / Source: Ahmad 41/ (24869) recorded it via 'Abd al-Rahman bin Abi al-Zinad, and al-Bukhari (1387) via Wuhayb bin Khalid; both narrate it from Hisham bin 'Urwah with this same chain.
Details of the narration: But 'A'ishah described these garments, saying: "(He was shrouded) in three white Sahuli (Yemeni) garments, among which there was neither a shirt nor a turban." Ibn Abi al-Zinad added in his narration: "new Yemeni (garments)". And both of them added to 'A'ishah's report something similar to the addition found in the narration of 'Abd al-Rahim bin Sulayman from Hisham bin 'Urwah (which comes after this one).
