It is narrated from Jumay' bin Umayr al-Laythi that he said: I came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) and asked him about Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he rebuked me. Then he said: "Shall I not tell you about Ali? This is the house of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Mosque, and this is the house of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) with Surah Bara'ah to the people of Makkah. They set off, and they saw a rider. They asked: 'Who is this?' He said: 'I am Ali.' Ali said: 'O Abu Bakr! Hand over the document (letter) that you have with you.' Abu Bakr asked: 'O Ali! Has something happened concerning me?' Ali said: 'By Allah! I know nothing but good.' So Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) took the document and went off with it, while Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) returned to Madinah and said: 'O Messenger of Allah! What is the matter concerning us?' He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'There is nothing for you but good, but I have been told that none shall convey (this message) on your behalf except you yourself or a man from you.'"
This hadith is shadhdh (anomalous), and the cause of its weakness is Jumay' bin Umayr and, after him, Ishaq bin Bishr.

Grading: Its chain is "extremely weak" (da'if jiddan) because of Ishaq bin Bishr al-Kahili; he is a ruined narrator, and several imams declared him a liar. Technical note / Defect ('illah): Jumay' bin Umayr is also weak, but he is not of the level to be accused (of lying), as al-Dhahabi applied that to him several times in the "Talkhis". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Ishaq bin Bishr is not alone in this report; rather, on the second part of the hadith (sending Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) with Surah Bara'ah) Muhammad bin Sa'id bin al-Asbahani and others corroborated him in al-Tahawi's "Sharh Mushkil al-Athar" (3587). The real issue is Jumay' bin Umayr, but he too is not alone, because the mention that Ali's (may Allah be pleased with him) house was near the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) house in the mosque (the first part) and the second part are narrated through several other routes, as will come in the takhrij of hadith (4702). Important point: The "shadh" element from Jumay' bin Umayr here is that he mentioned Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), whereas what is "preserved" (established) in this story is the mention of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) alone. In al-Tabari's narration of Abd Allah bin Umar al-Umari from Nafi' from Ibn Umar (as al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said in "al-Fath" 13/ 327), only Abu Bakr is mentioned, and its chain is "hasan" as a supporting report. Summary of the research: Al-Dhahabi's ruling of this narration as absolutely "fabricated" (mawdu') is not acceptable, because many of its parts are established by other supporting reports.
