Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4316

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Adi bin al-Hamra' al-Zuhri (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) seated on his mount at al-Hazwarah (a place in Makkah), saying: "By Allah! (O Makkah!) You are the best land of Allah and the most beloved of all His land to Allah; and had I not been driven out of you, I would never have left."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (2) In some manuscripts of al-Hakim this word has been marked with "tashdid" (doubling on the waw), but Abu Ahmad al-Askari said in "Tashifat al-Muhaddithin" (1/252) that most people err in it, saying "bi-l-hazawwarah" (with fathah on the za' and a doubled waw), whereas this is wrong. We say: Al-Daraqutni also said the same (see al-Bakri, Mu'jam ma Ista'jam 2/444). In fact "al-Hazwarah" (with sukun on the za' and fathah on the waw) was the market of Makkah, which became part of the Sacred Mosque (when it was extended).

Grading: (3) Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Yahya bin Bukayr is in fact "Yahya bin Abd Allah bin Bukayr", who is often attributed to his grandfather. Al-Layth is "al-Layth bin Sa'd" and Uqayl is "Uqayl bin Khalid al-Ayli".
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (3108) and Ibn Hibban (3708) narrated it through the route of Isa bin Hammad al-Misri; and al-Tirmidhi (3925) and al-Nasa'i (4238) through the route of Qutaybah bin Sa'id. Both of them narrate it from al-Layth bin Sa'd with this same chain.
Grading: Al-Tirmidhi said: "This hadith is hasan sahih."
Reference / Source: Ahmad (31/18716) and al-Nasa'i (4239) narrated it through the route of Salih bin Kaysan from al-Zuhri.
Details of the narration: This narration will come later (no. 5939) through the route of Shu'ayb bin Abi Hamzah from al-Zuhri.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): The nephew of Ibn Shihab (al-Zuhri) contradicted this (as will come at no. 5303): he narrated it from his uncle (al-Zuhri), from Muhammad bin Jubayr bin Mut'im, from Abd Allah bin Adi; that is, he mentioned "Muhammad bin Jubayr" instead of Abu Salamah, and this is an error.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Ma'mar also contradicted it (in this chain), found in Ahmad (18717) and al-Nasa'i (4240). He narrated it from al-Zuhri, from Abu Salamah bin Abd al-Rahman, from "Abu Hurayrah", thus making it a hadith of Abu Hurayrah, and this is an error (wahm) of Ma'mar.
Note / Clarification: And see the hadith of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) which has passed earlier (no. 1807).
