Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 4298

It is narrated from Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri that he said: Between the night of Aqabah and the emigration of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) there was a period of three months or thereabouts. This pledge of Aqabah by the Ansar to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took place in the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived in Madinah in the month of Rabi' al-Awwal.

Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: (2) The word "thalathah" (three) has dropped out of manuscripts (Z) and (B), and in manuscripts (S) and ('A) its place is left blank; whereas it is present in the Mahmudiyyah manuscript, as in the al-Mayman edition, and likewise it is established in al-Zuhri's report in all those who narrated it from al-Zuhri.

Note / Clarification: (3) In the manuscripts this word comes thus in the accusative case (nasb), and this is permissible on the interpretation that the subject (ism) of "kana" is omitted, understood as "the time" or "the period". Whereas in the other sources recording the report it comes in the nominative case (raf'), on the basis that it is the delayed subject of "kana".

Grading: (1) Its narrators are thiqah (trustworthy).
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Layth is "al-Layth bin Sa'd", Uqayl is "Uqayl bin Khalid al-Ayli", and Ibn Shihab is "al-Zuhri".
Reference / Source: Al-Bayhaqi narrated it in "Dala'il al-Nubuwwah" (2/511) and Ibn Abd al-Barr in "al-Tamhid" (23/275) through the route of Hajjaj bin Muhammad from al-Layth bin Sa'd, with this same chain.
