أخبرني أحمد بن جعفر القَطِيعي، حدثنا عبد الله بن أحمد بن حنبل، حدثني أبي، حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد، عن سعيد بن أبي عَرُوبة، عن قَتَادة، عن زُرَارة بن أوفَى، عن سعدِ بن هِشام: أنه دخل مع حكيم بن أفْلَحَ على عائشةَ، فسألَها فقال: يا أم المؤمنين، أنبِئيني عن خُلُقِ رسولِ الله ﷺ، قالت: أليس تَقرأُ القرآنَ؟ قال: بلى، قالت: فإِنَّ خُلُقَ نبيِّ الله ﷺ القُرآن (1).
هذا حديث صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يُخرجاه!

It is narrated from Sa'd bin Hisham that he, together with Hakim bin Aflah, came to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) and asked her about the character of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: "Do you not recite the Qur'an?" He said: Certainly. Sayyidah (Aishah) said: "Indeed, the character of the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was the Qur'an."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Grading: Its chain is sahih.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Yahya bin Sa'id is "al-Qattan".

وأخرجه أبو داود (1343) عن محمد بن بشّار، عن يحيى بن سعيد القطان، بهذا الإسناد. لكنه لم يسُق لفظه بتمامه.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (1343) recorded it from Muhammad bin Bashshar, from Yahya bin Sa'id al-Qattan, with this same chain, but he did not quote the full wording.
وأخرجه مسلم (746)، والنسائي (424) طرق عن سعيد بن أبي عَروبة به. واستدراك الحاكم له ذهولٌ منه.
Reference / Source: Muslim (746) and al-Nasa'i (424) recorded it via various routes from Sa'id bin Abi 'Arubah.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Hakim's including it as a supplement (istidrak) is an "oversight" (dhuhul) on his part (since it is in Muslim).
وقد تقدَّم برقم (3884) من طريق معمر عن قَتَادة.
