Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3782

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to make this supplication: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min sharri al-rih, wa min sharri ma taji'u bihi al-rih, wa min rih al-shamal, fa'innaha al-rih al-aqim' (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the evil of the wind, and from the evil of what the wind brings, and from the north wind, for it is the barren (that is, destructive) wind).

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: Manuscript (Z) reads "wa min sharr al-shimal" (and from the evil of the north wind).

Grading: This chain is "da'if" because of a break in it (inqita'); al-Harith bin Fudayl did not meet Jabir.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): And Yahya bin Muhammad al-Jari is weak when he narrates alone.
Important point: We did not find it recorded by anyone other than the author (al-Hakim).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Several hadiths are narrated on seeking refuge from the evil of the wind; see the hadith of Abu Hurayrah in "Musnad Ahmad" (12/ 7413), which will come in the author's book at (7850), and the hadith of Ubayy (bin Ka'b) which has already appeared at no. (3112).
