Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 3679

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: I learned about a man from among the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he had heard a hadith about retribution (qisas) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) which I had not heard. So I bought a camel, fastened my saddle on it, and travelled for a month until I reached Egypt. There I came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to the doorkeeper: "Tell him that Jabir is at the door." He asked: "Ibn Abdullah?" I said: "Yes." The doorkeeper went and told him, and he came out (in haste), trailing his garment, and embraced me. I said: "I have learned that you heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about retribution which I have not heard, and I feared that you or I might die before I could hear it." Then Abdullah bin Unays (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Allah Almighty will gather the servants in a state in which they will be naked, uncircumcised and 'buhman'." We asked: "What is meant by 'buhman'?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is, they will have nothing with them. Then Allah will call out to them with a voice that the one far away will hear just as the one nearby hears it: 'I am the King, I am the Requiter (al-Dayyan). It is not permissible for anyone of the people of Paradise to enter Paradise, nor for anyone of the people of Hell to enter Hell, while someone has a right against him outstanding, until I exact retribution for it from him, even for a slap.'" We said: "How will that be, when we will appear before Allah naked and empty-handed?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "(Recompense will be taken) through good deeds and bad deeds." And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "This Day every soul will be recompensed for what it earned; there is no injustice this Day." [Surah Ghafir: 17]
This hadith has a sahih (authentic) chain of narration, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Hadith Grading
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: This chain is "hasan" for corroborating chains and supporting reports because of "al-Qasim bin Abd al-Wahid" and "Abd Allah bin Muhammad bin Aqil", and both of them have been corroborated, as we have explained in our commentary on "Musnad Ahmad" (25/ 16042). There it is narrated from Yazid bin Harun with this chain, except that the story of the recitation at its end is not mentioned.
Note / Clarification: Likewise it will come later with the author (al-Hakim) at (8930) via Muhammad bin Maslamah from Yazid bin Harun.
Note / Clarification: "Ghurlan": the plural of "aghral", meaning "aqlaf", i.e. one who has not been circumcised.
