It is narrated from al-Qasim bin Rabi'ah that he said: I heard Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) reciting (the word "tansaha" with the "sin") "ma nansakh min ayatin aw tansaha". I said: But Sa'id (bin al-Musayyab) reads it "aw nunsiha". At this Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Qur'an was not revealed to al-Musayyab nor to his son. The narrator said: And I remember that he (Sayyiduna Sa'd) recited: "We will make you recite, so you will not forget" [Surah al-A'la: 6], and "And remember your Lord when you forget" [Surah al-Kahf: 24].
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: The speaker is "Shu'bah"; he means: I heard Ya'la bin 'Ata' say.

Note / Clarification: In the manuscripts here the word is written "تَنسَاها" (with an alif), whereas at number (3968), where it will come via Hushaym from Ya'la bin 'Ata', the original manuscripts have "تَنسَها" (without an alif).
Important point: "Without an alif" (tansaha) is the preponderant form, because it occurs thus, attributed to Sa'd, in Abu al-Fath bin Jinni's "al-Muhtasab" 1/ 103, Abu Zur'ah bin Zanjalah's "Hujjat al-Qira'at" p. 110, al-Tabari's "Tafsir" 1/ 476 and Ibn 'Atiyyah's "al-Muharrar al-Wajiz" 1/ 192 (Ibn 'Atiyyah attributed the vowelling of this reading to Abu al-Fath bin Jinni and Abu 'Amr al-Dani). As for the reading of Sa'id bin al-Musayyib, it is with damma on the first nun and kasra on the sin (tunsiha); Ibn 'Atiyyah and al-Samin al-Halabi in "al-Durr al-Masun" 2/ 58 vowelled it thus.

Grading: Its chain is "hasan", if Allah wills.
Technical note / Defect ('illah): Al-Qasim bin Rabi'ah (who is al-Qasim bin 'Abd Allah bin Rabi'ah al-Thaqafi) is a Successor (tabi'i); one trustworthy narrator narrated from him and no one else narrated from him. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in "al-Thiqat", and all the narrators below him are thiqah.
Reference / Source: Al-Tabari narrated it in his "Tafsir" 1/ 476 via al-Muthanna bin Ibrahim, from Adam bin Abi Iyas al-'Asqalani, with this same chain.
Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i (10929) narrated it via al-Nadr bin Shumayl, from Shu'bah.
