It is narrated from Sharik bin Shihab; he said: I longed to meet a Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) who would narrate to me a hadith about the Khawarij. Then I met Sayyiduna Abu Barzah al-Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) on the day of Arafah, among a group of his companions. I said: O Abu Barzah, tell us something you heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about the Khawarij. He said: I will tell you what my ears heard and my eyes saw: Gold coins (dinars) were brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from some land, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was distributing them, when a black man came to him whose hair was shaved (or cut short); he was wearing two white garments, and between his eyes was the mark of prostration. He presented himself before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): first he came from in front of him, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him nothing; then he came from the left, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him nothing; then he came from behind him and said: By Allah, O Muhammad, you have not been just in the distribution today. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry (on hearing this) and said: "After me you will not find anyone more just than me" (he (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times). Then he said: "From the direction of the east, people will emerge whose way will be just like this (like this man's); they will recite the Qur'an but it will not go beyond their throats; they will pass out of the religion as an arrow passes right through the game, then they will not return to it (and he (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand on his blessed chest). Their sign will be shaving the head. They will keep emerging until their last group emerges (with the Dajjal). So when you see them, kill them (Hammad said that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times). They are the worst of all creation and created beings (Hammad said that he said this three times as well)." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) also said: "They will not return to it (the religion)."
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of Muslim, but the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.

Grading: This narration is "sahih li-ghayrihi" (authentic due to other supporting reports). Technical note / Defect ('illah): Its chain can possibly be considered "hasan" because of Sharik bin Shihab, since no other hadith of his is known besides this one, and no one other than al-Azraq bin Qays is known to have narrated from him. Imam al-Nasa'i said he is not very well known, but Ibn Hibban mentioned him in his book "al-Thiqat". Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it (33/19783) through 'Affan bin Muslim with this same chain. Reference / Source: Imam Ahmad narrated it (19808) from 'Abd al-Samad bin 'Abd al-Warith and Yunus bin Muhammad al-Mu'addib, and al-Nasa'i (3552) via Abu Dawud al-Tayalisi; all three narrate it from Hammad bin Salamah. Details of the narration: These narrations have the additional words: "until the last of them comes out with al-Masih al-Dajjal". Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Apart from the words "until the last of them comes out", the rest of the hadith is supported by the hadiths of 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin al-'As and Abu Bakrah which have preceded it. Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Also supporting it are the two hadiths of Anas bin Malik and Abu Sa'id al-Khudri which will come after it. (1066). Reference / Source: Likewise, the hadith of 'Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), found in Sahih al-Bukhari (3611) and Sahih Muslim (1066), supports it. (6932). Reference / Source: The hadith of 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), found in Sahih al-Bukhari (6932), supports it. Reference / Source: The hadith of Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) in Sahih al-Bukhari (6934) and Sahih Muslim (1068), and the hadith of Jabir bin 'Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) in Sahih al-Bukhari (3138) and Sahih Muslim (1063), support it, though al-Bukhari's narration is abridged. (1067). Reference / Source: The hadith of Abu Dharr al-Ghifari and Rafi' bin 'Amr al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with them) is also found in Sahih Muslim (1067). Details of the narration: Among the Companions mentioned above, only the narrations of Abu Dharr, Rafi' and Anas (may Allah be pleased with them) contain the addition: "They (the Khawarij) are the worst of creation and of all creatures"; the same words also come in a narration of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) in Sahih Muslim. 22/ 216 - 217. Details of the narration: In a narration of 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) in Sahih Muslim the words are: "among the most hateful of Allah's creation to Him". Note / Clarification: Some of the narrators mentioned, and others, added these words in their narrations outside the Sahih, as al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar explained in "Fath al-Bari" (22/216-217). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The words "until the last of them comes out with al-Dajjal" are supported by the hadith of 'Abdullah bin 'Amr bin al-'As (may Allah be pleased with them both), which will come later at number (8707), and its chain, in sha' Allah, is "hasan". Note / Clarification: The words of the hadith "matmum al-sha'r" refer to hair that has been cut down to the root or shaved off. Note / Clarification: "al-Sima" means a mark or sign.
