Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 2067

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Prophet of Allah, I bought the share of such-and-such a tribe and made such-and-such a profit on it." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Shall I not tell you of something that brings even more profit than that?" He said: "Does (something more profitable than that) exist?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man who learns ten verses of the Qur'an." So the man went and learned ten verses, then came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of it.
If Amr bin Khalid preserved the name of Salim bin Abi al-Ja'd in its chain, then it is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim); however, the Basran students of al-Mu'tamir contradicted him in it.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Note / Clarification: In the printed edition this man's name is written as "Salim bin Abi al-Ja'd", which is wrong. Imam al-Bayhaqi narrated it through al-Hakim as "from Abu al-Ja'd", and the manuscripts also have the same. The most plausible view is that al-Hakim later changed his opinion, and Allah knows best.
