Salim bin Abi al-Ja'd narrates from Shurahbil bin al-Simt that he said to Ka'b bin Murrah or Murrah bin Ka'b: "Narrate to us a hadith that you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) invoking against the tribe of Mudar. So I came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Allah Almighty has given you (much) and has answered your prayers, and (now) your people are perishing, so pray to Allah for them." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated (for rain): 'Allahumma-sqina ghaythan mughithan, mari'an sari'an, ghadaqan tabaqan, 'ajilan ghayra ra'ith, nafi'an ghayra darr' (O Allah, give us rain that brings relief, that is wholesome and falls quickly, that is abundant and covers everything, that comes soon and not delayed, that is beneficial and not harmful). Only a week or about that had passed when they were given rain.
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), because Bahz bin Asad al-Ammi, who is trustworthy and reliable (thabt), narrated it from Shu'bah with his chain from Murrah bin Ka'b without any doubt about it, and Murrah bin Ka'b al-Bahzi is a well-known Companion.
