Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1222

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited the tashahhud in the two prostrations of forgetfulness and then gave the salam.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it; the two of them only agreed upon the narration of Khalid al-Hadhdha from Abu Qilabah, in which there is no mention of the tashahhud for the prostrations of forgetfulness.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) Its chain is sahih, but the mention of "tashahhud" in the prostrations of forgetfulness (sujud al-sahw) is "shadh" (not preserved) in the hadith of 'Imran bin Husayn. Al-Bayhaqi and Ibn Hajar called it shadh; however, Ibn Hajar graded it hasan overall on the basis of other weak supporting reports.
Technical note: Khalid al-Hadhdha' refers to Ibn Mihran, Abu Qilabah refers to al-Jarmi, and Abu al-Muhallab refers to al-Basri.
Reference / Source: Abu Dawud (1039), al-Tirmidhi (395) and Ibn Hibban narrated it through the chain of Muhammad bin 'Abdullah al-Ansari. Al-Tirmidhi called it "hasan gharib".
Technical note: See also the narration after this.

Defect ('illah) / Technical note: (2) The narration of Khalid al-Hadhdha' from Abu Qilabah was taken only by Imam Muslim; it is not in al-Bukhari.
