Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On a night in Ramadan I prayed with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a room made of palm branches. He (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up and said the takbir: 'Allahu akbaru dhu al-jabaruti wa al-malakut, wa dhu al-kibriya'i wa al-'azamah' (Allah is the Greatest, Possessor of might and dominion, and of grandeur and majesty). Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) began Surah al-Baqarah. I thought that he (peace and blessings be upon him) would bow at a hundred verses, then I thought he would do so at two hundred, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the whole surah. Then he began Al Imran and recited it, then he began Surah al-Nisa and recited it. Whenever he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed a verse of warning, he would stop there and seek refuge with Allah. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) bowed for as long as he had stood, repeating in it 'Subhana rabbiya al-'azim' (Glory be to my Lord, the Most Great). Then he raised his head and said 'Sami'a Allahu liman hamidah, Allahumma rabbana laka al-hamd' (Allah hears the one who praises Him; O Allah, our Lord, to You belongs all praise), and stood for as long as he had bowed. Then he prostrated, and the prostration was as long as the standing, in which he kept saying 'Subhana rabbiya al-a'la' (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High), and between the two prostrations he kept saying 'Rabbi ighfir li' (My Lord, forgive me). From the beginning of the night to its end, he (peace and blessings be upon him) had prayed only four rak'ahs after Isha when Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came and informed him (peace and blessings be upon him) of the morning prayer.
This hadith is sahih (authentic) on the condition of the two Shaykhs (Bukhari and Muslim), but they did not record it. [Beginning of the Book of Forgetfulness (Sahw)]

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) It is a "sahih hadith", but there is a break (inqita') in this chain; Talhah bin Yazid's hearing from Hudhayfah is not established, and between them is the intermediary Silah bin Zufar, as is clear from the takhrij. Reference / Source: Al-Nasa'i narrated it through the routes of Hafs bin Ghiyath and al-Nadr bin Muhammad, and said that Talhah did not hear it from Hudhayfah. Reference / Source: Ahmad (38/23375), Abu Dawud (874) and al-Nasa'i narrated it through the route of Shu'bah, in which an unnamed person (a man from Banu 'Abs) is mentioned, who is most likely Silah bin Zufar. Reference / Source: The name of Silah bin Zufar is stated explicitly in the narration of al-Mustawrid bin al-Ahnaf; Muslim (772), Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasa'i narrated it. Al-Tirmidhi called it "hasan sahih". (1016). Repetition: It has passed in abridged form, as the supplication between the two prostrations, at number (1016). Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The narration of 'Awf bin Malik is found in Ahmad (39/23980), Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i with a sahih chain.
