Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1214

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us, sat down and said: "Whoever has a need from Allah Almighty or from any of the children of Adam, let him make ablution and make it well, then pray two rak'ahs, then praise and glorify Allah and send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and say: 'La ilaha illa Allahu al-Halimu al-Karim, subhana Allahi rabbi al-'arshi al-'azim, al-hamdu lillahi rabbi al-'alamin, as'aluka 'aza'ima maghfiratik, wa al-'ismata min kulli dhanb, wa al-salamata min kulli ithm' (There is no true god except Allah, the Most Forbearing, the Most Generous; glory be to Allah, the Lord of the Mighty Throne; all praise is for Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. I ask You for the means of Your forgiveness, protection from every sin, and safety from every evil)."
Fa'id bin Abd al-Rahman Abu al-Warqa is a Kufan who is counted among the Successors (Tabi'in). He is sound in hadith (mustaqim al-hadith), but the two Shaykhs did not narrate from him; I have mentioned this hadith of his as a supporting witness for the preceding narrations.

Hadith Grading
Hadith Takhrij «
Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (2) This chain is "very weak"; Fa'id Abu al-Warqa' is "matruk al-hadith" (abandoned in hadith), and al-Dhahabi also identified this defect.
Reference / Source: Ibn Majah (1384) and al-Tirmidhi (479) narrated it through the chain of Fa'id bin 'Abd al-Rahman. Al-Tirmidhi called it gharib and called Fa'id da'if.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: However, the opening words of this supplication ("La ilaha illallah al-Halim al-Karim") are authentically established as the "supplication of distress" (du'a' al-karb) from Ibn 'Abbas in al-Bukhari (3645) and Muslim.
