Mustadrak al-Hakim — Hadith 1197

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) during a journey praying eight voluntary rak'ahs of the forenoon (Duha). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he said: "I have offered this prayer with longing and with fear, and I asked my Lord for three things; He granted me two and withheld one from me. I asked that He not destroy my Ummah through years of famine, and Allah granted this. I asked that no outside enemy be made to overpower them, and Allah granted this too. And I asked that He not split them into factions among themselves, and Allah refused that."
The chain of this hadith is sahih (authentic), but the two Shaykhs did not record it with this wording; they only agreed upon the hadith of Sayyidah Umm Hani (may Allah be pleased with her) about the eight rak'ahs.

Explanation & Benefits
Shaykh Adil Murshid et al.
Grading: (1) It is "sahih li-ghayrihi"; the chain is da'if because al-Dahhak bin 'Abdullah is unknown (majhul), but the supporting reports make it sahih.
Reference / Source: Ahmad (19/12486) and al-Nasa'i (489) narrated it through the chain of 'Amr bin al-Harith.
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: Its supporting reports (shahid) are the hadiths of Thawban and Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas in Sahih Muslim (2889).
Corroborating chains and supporting reports: The narration of Abu Hurayrah will come later at number (8789) with a hasan chain.
Technical note: For further supporting reports, see our work on Musnad Ahmad (12486).
(Note / Clarification): "Shiya'an" means group after group; "yalbisahum" means to entangle them with one another, i.e. fighting and conflict.

Reference / Source: (2) In al-Bukhari (1103) and Muslim (336) it is narrated from Umm Hani' (may Allah be pleased with her) that on the day of the Conquest of Makkah he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed eight rak'ahs (of Duha), which were very light yet complete.
