Musnad Imam Shafi'i 520 — when there was lightning or thunder

أَخْبَرَنَا مَنْ لَا أَتَّهِمُ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي خَالِدُ بْنُ رَبَاحٍ، عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ حَنْطَبٍ: أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا بَرَقَتِ السَّمَاءُ أَوْ رَعَدَتْ، عُرِفَ ذَلِكَ فِي وَجْهِهِ، فَإِذَا أُمْطِرَتْ سُرِّيَ عَنْهُ.
It is narrated from Matlub bin Hantab that when there was lightning or thunder in the sky, its effects could be seen on the face of the Prophet ﷺ, and when the rain would fall, the effects (of fear) would disappear.
