It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that a wolf attacked a goat and took it away. The shepherd went out in search of it and recovered it. The wolf sat on its tail and said, "Do you not fear Allah that you have snatched from me my sustenance which Allah had given me?" The shepherd said, "It is astonishing that a wolf is sitting on its tail and talking to me like a human being!" The wolf said, "Shall I not tell you something even more astonishing? Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is in Yathrib telling people news of the past." When the shepherd drove his goats back to Madinah, he left his goats in a corner and came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and narrated the whole incident. At the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the call of 'As-Salat Jami'ah' was made. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out of his house and said to the shepherd, "Relate your incident before the people." He narrated the whole incident before the people. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "He has spoken the truth. It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that an Ansari said to his companions, "I swear by Allah and say to you that if these matters continue as they are, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) will give preference to others over you." They gave him a harsh reply. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was informed of this, so he came to them and spoke to them about some things which I do not remember now, but I do remember that whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said something to them, they would reply, "Why not, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)!" When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw that they were not responding to anything, he said, "Did you not say that your people fought against you and we helped you, your people expelled you and we gave you shelter?" They said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), this thing which you are saying, we did not say." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "O group of Ansar! Are you not pleased that people take the world and you take the Messenger of Allah?" They said, "Why not, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)!" Then he said, "O group of Ansar! Are you not pleased that if people walk on one path and you walk on another, I will choose the path of the Ansar?" They said, "Why not, O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)!" Then he said, "If there had been no migration, I would have been one of the Ansar. The Ansar are my veil, my family, and my shelter. Forgive their wrongdoers and accept their righteous ones." Hazrat Abu Saeed (may Allah be pleased with him) says that once I said to Hazrat Amir Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had already told us that after him we would see preferences being given. Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked, "Then what did the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) command you?" I said, "The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) commanded us to be patient." Hazrat Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "Then hold fast to patience."
