Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "On the Day of Resurrection, a flag will be raised for every deceiver, and it will be announced that this is the deception of so-and-so, son of so-and-so."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that on the day of the conquest of Makkah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying (on the steps of the Ka'bah): "Be aware! The blood money (diyah) for one killed with a stick or staff is one hundred camels. According to some chains of narration, this is a severe diyah, in which there will be forty pregnant she-camels. Be aware! Every pride, every blood, and every claim of the time of ignorance is under my two feet, except the office of giving water to the pilgrims and the custodianship of the key of the Sacred House (Ka'bah); I maintain these offices for their holders."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When food is placed before any of you and the prayer is established, then eat the food first." The narrator says that on one occasion, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) continued eating the food even though he could hear the recitation of the Imam.

Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to go to the mosque on Friday and perform several rak'ahs of prayer in which he would stand for a long time. When the Imam would leave, he would go to his house and pray two rak'ahs and would say that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to do the same.

It is narrated from Abdur Rahman A'araji that a man asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) about temporary marriage with women in my presence, so he replied: "In the blessed era of the Prophet (peace be upon him), we did not commit any immorality or lustfulness." Then he said: "By Allah! I heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: Before the Day of Judgment, the Messiah Dajjal and thirty or more great liars will certainly appear."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said (on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage): "Do not become disbelievers after me, striking the necks of one another."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said (on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage): "Do not become disbelievers after me, striking the necks of one another."

Yasar, who was the freed slave of Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), says: Once Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) saw me praying after the rising of dawn, so he said: O Yasar! How many rak‘ahs did you pray? I replied that I do not remember. He said: May you not remember. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also once came at this time and we were praying in the same way, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let those present convey this message to those who are absent, that after the rising of dawn, there is no prayer except two rak‘ahs."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate against four men. Then this verse was revealed: "You have no authority in this matter, whether Allah turns to them or punishes them, for they are wrongdoers." So Allah guided all of them to Islam.

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) camped in the valley of Aqeeq, he forbade people from suddenly returning to their wives at night without prior notice. Two young men did not comply, and both had to witness unpleasant scenes.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that at the encampment of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) — which was in the valley near Dhu’l-Hulayfah — an angel came and said: "You are in the blessed plain."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever drags his clothes on the ground out of arrogance, Allah Almighty will not look at him with mercy on the Day of Resurrection." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Sometimes one corner of my garment hangs down, although I try very hard (to keep it up)? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are not among those who do this out of arrogance."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once saw in a dream Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). He said: "I saw that people were gathered, Abu Bakr stood up and drew one or two buckets (of water), but there was some weakness in it. May Allah forgive him. Then Umar drew water, and the bucket became a large bucket in his hand. I have not seen any outstanding person fill a bucket like him, until he gave people enough to drink."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is able to die in Madinah should do so, for I will intercede for those who die in Madinah."

Saeed bin Jubair (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once he heard Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared nabidh (fermented drink) made in earthenware jars to be forbidden. I went to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said to him, "Are you not surprised at Abu Abdur Rahman? He thinks that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared nabidh made in earthenware jars to be forbidden." Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "He spoke the truth, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) declared it forbidden." I asked, "What is meant by 'earthenware jar'?" He replied: "Anything that is made from baked clay."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Every intoxicating thing is wine, and every intoxicating thing is unlawful." Some have transmitted this hadith as mawquf and some as marfu'.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever frees his share of a slave, he will be made responsible for freeing the remaining share as well. If he does not possess enough wealth to free the rest, then only the portion he has freed will remain freed."

Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to perform the night prayer and witr on his mount, and he did not mind in which direction it was facing. The narrator says that I have also seen Salim doing the same, and Nafi’ told me that Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to relate this from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) explained this verse, "When people will stand before the Lord of the worlds," by saying that at that time people will be standing, submerged in their sweat up to half of their ears.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When a person calls his brother 'O disbeliever,' then one of the two must bear it; either the one who was called a disbeliever is indeed a disbeliever, or else it returns upon the one who said it."

Safwan bin Mahraz, may Allah have mercy on him, says that once Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, was performing Tawaf of the House of Allah when a man came and said: O Abu Abdur Rahman! What have you heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the whispering that will take place on the Day of Resurrection? Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, replied: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say that Allah Almighty will bring a believing servant close to Himself and will cover him with His sheet, concealing him from the eyes of the people, and will make him confess his sins and will say to him: Do you remember such and such sins? When he will have confessed all his sins (and will think in his heart that now he is doomed), then Allah Almighty will say to him: I concealed your sins in the world and today I forgive you, then he will be given his book of deeds. As for the disbelievers and hypocrites, the witnesses will say: These are the ones who used to deny their Lord. Behold! The curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers.

Abdur Rahman bin Sa’d (may Allah have mercy on him) says that he saw Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) performing voluntary prayers on his mount, regardless of which direction it was facing. He once asked him about this, so he replied that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do the same.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the people were performing the morning prayer in the mosque of Quba, when a man came and said that last night the Qur'an was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in which he was commanded to turn his face towards the Ka'bah during prayer. Upon hearing this, those people turned their faces towards the Ka'bah during the prayer itself.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any one of you comes for Jumu'ah, he should come after performing ghusl (ritual bath)."

Abu Al-Sha’tha’ (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once a person asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): "We go to our rulers and say something, and when we come out, we say something else?" Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) replied: "In the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to consider this as hypocrisy."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from Hajj, Jihad, or Umrah, he would first say Allahu Akbar three times, then recite this supplication: "Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, there is no deity except Allah, He is alone, He has no partner, His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He has power over all things. We are returning repentant, prostrating, worshipping, and praising our Lord. Allah has fulfilled His promise, helped His servant, and defeated all the armies alone."

The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain of transmission.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people! Beware of oppression, for oppression will be darknesses on the Day of Resurrection."

Khalad bin Abdur Rahman asked Tawus about wine, so he narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade (the use of) pitchers and gourds.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When the edge of the sun begins to rise, do not perform prayer until it becomes fully apparent, and likewise, when the edge of the sun begins to set, do not perform prayer until it has completely set."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not intend to pray at the time of sunrise or sunset, because the sun rises between the two horns of Satan."

Ziyad bin Subaih Hanafi (may Allah have mercy on him) says that once I was praying next to Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them). I placed my hand on my waist. When he saw this, he struck my hand. When he finished his prayer, he said: Such severity in prayer? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to forbid this.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he prayed with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and the three caliphs. Remember! There is no prayer after the Fajr prayer until sunrise.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a hurry to travel, he would combine Maghrib and Isha prayers.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that during the blessed era of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I had no place of shelter or place to spend the night except the mosque.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a spear would be planted on the two Eids, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would use it as a sutrah and perform the prayer.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would place his mount in front of him, taking it as a sutrah, and would perform prayer.

Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the prostration of these people is longer than even three prostrations of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). (Whereas the Imam has been commanded to show leniency.)

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to raise his hands up to the level of his shoulders while performing the raising of the hands (raf‘ al-yadayn).
