Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage, I applied "Dhareerah" perfume with my own hands to the Ihram of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was entering into Ihram, and after becoming halal (lawful) before the Tawaf al-Ziyarah, I also applied perfume.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that I applied the best fragrance available to me with my own hands to the Ihram of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that (I used to apply the best perfume I had to the Prophet ﷺ and) it is as if that scene is still before my eyes that I saw the shine of musk on the head of the Prophet ﷺ while he was in the state of Ihram.

Abdur Rahman bin Harith says that once Marwan bin Hakam sent me with a man to Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) and Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) to ask: If a man enters the morning in the month of Ramadan in a state of janabah (major ritual impurity) and has not yet performed ghusl (ritual bath), what is the ruling? Hazrat Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would intentionally be in a state of janabah in the morning, then he would perform ghusl and complete the fast for the rest of the day. And Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) replied that sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would intentionally enter the morning in a state of janabah without having had a wet dream, and he would complete his fast.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! If the time for prayer comes, I am in a state where ghusl (ritual bath) is obligatory upon me, and I also want to fast, what should I do?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "If such a situation occurs with me, I perform ghusl and then keep the fast." The man said, "We are not like you; Allah Almighty has forgiven all your past and future sins." At this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became displeased, and signs of anger appeared on his blessed face, and he said, "By Allah, I hope that I am the most God-fearing among you and the most knowledgeable about Him."

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Pick up the mat from the mosque and give it to me." I said, "I am in my days (i.e., menstruating)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Your menstruation is not in your hand."

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that we recited the Talbiyah for Hajj, and when we reached the place of Sarif, my "periods" started. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came and I was crying. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Aisha! Why are you crying?" I said, "My 'periods' have started. I wish I had not come for Hajj." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Subhan Allah! This is something Allah has decreed for all the daughters of Adam (peace be upon him). You should perform all the rites, except do not perform the Tawaf of the House (Ka'bah)." When we entered Makkah Mukarramah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Whoever wishes to convert his Ihram to Umrah may do so, except for the one who has a sacrificial animal with him." And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered a cow on behalf of his wives on the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah. On the night of Batha, I became "pure" and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Will my companions return with both Hajj and Umrah, and I will return with only Hajj?" So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Abdur Rahman bin Abi Bakr, and he took me to Tan'eem, from where I entered into Ihram for Umrah.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'minin Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage, we set out with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). I put on the Ihram for Umrah, and I did not have a sacrificial animal with me. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) announced that whoever has a sacrificial animal with him should also put on the Ihram for Hajj along with his Umrah and should open both Ihrams together. I was menstruating, so on the night of Arafah I said, "O Messenger of Allah! I had put on the Ihram for Umrah, what should I do now for Hajj?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Undo your hair and comb it, leave the Umrah and perform Hajj." When I completed the Hajj, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered Abdur Rahman, so he took me to Taneem and had me perform Umrah in place of the first Umrah.

Abdullah bin Shaqiq says that I asked Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the voluntary fasts of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so she replied that apart from Ramadan, I do not know of any month in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fasted, broke the fast, or did not fast, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) departed from this world.

Abu Hassan says that a man informed Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates a hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Omen is found in a woman, a house, and a riding animal." She became very angry. Then that man said that a part of it flies towards the sky and a part remains on the earth. Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "The people of ignorance used to take bad omens from such things (Islam has declared such things baseless)."

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting and eating food with his six companions (may Allah be pleased with them) when a Bedouin came and ate all the food in just two bites. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If he had recited Bismillah, this food would have sufficed for all of you. Therefore, when any one of you eats food, he should recite Bismillah over it. If he forgets to recite Bismillah at the beginning, then when he remembers, he should say: "Bismillah fi awwalihi wa akhirihi."

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once she took a sheet with pictures on it. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw it, he stood at the door and did not enter. I noticed signs of displeasure on his face. I said, "O Messenger of Allah! I repent before Allah and His Messenger. What mistake have I made?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "What is this sheet?" I replied, "I bought it for you to sit on and lean against." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Those who make these pictures will be subjected to punishment on the Day of Resurrection, and it will be said to them, 'Give life to what you have created.'" And he said, "The angels of mercy do not enter a house in which there are pictures."

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was neither one to do indecent acts nor to speak indecently, nor would he raise his voice in the markets, and he would not repay evil with evil, rather he would forgive and overlook.

Nafi' says that I used to trade in Shaam or Egypt. Once, I prepared to go to Iraq, but before departing, I presented myself before Umm al-Mu'mineen, Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and said to her, "O Umm al-Mu'mineen! I have prepared to go to Iraq." She said, "Why are you leaving your place of trade?" I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "When the sustenance of any one of you is attached to something, he should not leave it unless there is a change in it or it becomes corrupted." However, I still went to Iraq. Upon my return, I again presented myself before Umm al-Mu'mineen and said, "O Umm al-Mu'mineen! By Allah, I could not even recover my original capital." She said, "I had already narrated this hadith to you."

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The child belongs to the (owner of the) bed, and for the adulterer is the stone."

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If I had known earlier what I came to know later regarding this matter, I would never have brought the sacrificial animal with me, and I would have ended my state of Ihram along with those people who ended their Ihram after performing Umrah.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that a woman named "Hawla" used to come to her, who was famous for enduring hardship and exertion in worship. When I mentioned her to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do as much (good) deeds as you are able, for by Allah, Allah does not get tired, but you will surely get tired. The previous hadith is also narrated through this second chain.

Wahb narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to us, he said: I heard al-Nu'man, from al-Zuhri, from 'Urwah, from Aisha, who said: Al-Hawla' bint Tuwayt ibn Habib ibn Asad ibn Abd al-Uzza passed by, and he mentioned it, and said: "Indeed, Allah does not tire until you tire."

Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, he said: Shu'ayb informed us, from al-Zuhri, he said: 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr said: Aisha informed me that al-Hawla' bint Tuwayt ibn Habib ibn Asad ibn 'Abd al-'Uzza... then he mentioned the hadith.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no vow in disobedience to Allah, and its expiation is the same as the expiation for an oath."

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The prohibition of fosterage is not established by sucking milk from a woman's breast once or twice.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "Do you know that when your people rebuilt the Ka'bah, they reduced it from the foundations of Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him)?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Then why do you not return it to the foundation of Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "If your people had not recently been in the time of disbelief, I would have done so." Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) heard this hadith and said, "By Allah, if Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) heard this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then I think that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not touch the two corners adjacent to the Hatim for this very reason, that the construction of the House of Allah was not completed on the foundations of Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him)."

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once on the day of Eid, some Abyssinians were performing acrobatics in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I rested my head on the shoulder of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and began to watch them by peeking out, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) lowered his shoulder for me. I kept watching them, and when I was satisfied, I returned.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to observe i'tikaf and would extend his head out from the mosque, and I would comb it. He would only enter the house for ablution.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned from a journey. I had bought a curtain with pictures on it, which I had hung in the courtyard of my house. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the house, he expressed his dislike for what I had done and said, "O Aisha! Are you covering the walls with curtains?" So I took it down, cut it, and made two cushions out of it, and I have seen him reclining on them while the pictures were still present.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whenever a Muslim is pricked by a thorn or afflicted by any hardship even less than that, it becomes an expiation for his sins.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me and a Jewish woman was sitting with me, and she was saying, "Do you know that you will be tested in your graves?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards us and said, "The Jews will be subjected to trial." After some time had passed, one day the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me, "Do you know that revelation has come to me that you will be tested in your graves?" After that, I always heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) seeking refuge from the punishment of the grave.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray eleven rak'ahs between 'Isha and Fajr. He would say salam after every two rak'ahs and would pray one rak'ah of Witr. In the nawafil, he would perform such a long prostration that before he raised his head, any one of you could recite fifty verses. When the muezzin finished giving the adhan, he would pray two short rak'ahs, then lie down on his right side until the muezzin would come and inform the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that the prayer was ready.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that before the fasting of Ramadan was made obligatory, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to order his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) to fast on the tenth of Muharram. Then, when the fasting of the month of Ramadan was made obligatory, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to fast only in the month of Ramadan and left the fasting of Ashura. Now, whoever wishes may fast, and whoever wishes may leave it.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the verse of choice (Ayat Takhyir) was revealed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) first called me and said, "O Aisha! I want to mention something before you; do not make any decision in this matter without consulting your parents." I asked, "What is it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called me and recited this verse: "O Prophet! Say to your wives: If you desire the life of this world and its adornment..." يَا أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُلْ لِأَزْوَاجِكَ إِنْ كُنْتُنَّ تُرِدْنَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا وَزِينَتَهَا حَتَّى بَلَغَ أَعَدَّ لِلْمُحْسِنَاتِ مِنْكُنَّ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا " I asked, "Will I consult my parents in this matter? I choose Allah and His Messenger." Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became very happy.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered a sacrifice of a cow on behalf of his noble wives.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that women used to participate in the Fajr prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then they would wrap themselves in their sheets in such a way that no one could recognize them.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was once praying on a mat. After finishing the prayer, he said, "Aisha! Remove this mat from near us, for I fear that people may fall into trial because of it."

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out on a journey. When we reached Har, we started to return. I was riding my camel, which was the last to meet the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was among the acacia trees, and I was hearing the voice of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was saying, "Oh my bride! By Allah..." I was still on that camel when a caller called out, "Throw down its rein." I threw down its rein, and Allah gave it into the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that during his final illness, they were waiting for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message to Hazrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) to lead the people in prayer. Hazrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) stood and led the prayer, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to pray while sitting, and the people were behind Hazrat Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him).

It is narrated from Abdullah bin Abi Musa (and according to the more correct opinion, Abdullah bin Abi Qais), "who was a freed slave of Banu Nasr bin Muawiyah," that Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said to me: Never abandon the night prayer (Qiyam al-Lail), because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never used to leave it. Even if he was ill or did not feel energetic, he would still recite it while sitting.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Sahla bint Suhail once came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Salim used to come to my house, and I would keep my scarf and such removed, but now that he has grown older and his hair has turned white, I feel uneasy when he comes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, 'Give him your milk to drink, this uneasiness will go away.'"

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the hand to be cut off for theft of a quarter dinar or more.
