Abdullah ibn Idris narrated to us, he said: I heard Ubaydullah ibn Umar, and Malik ibn Anas informed us, from Talhah ibn Abd al-Malik, from al-Qasim, from Aisha, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, similarly. Abu Abd al-Rahman said: This is a rare hadith from Yahya ibn Sa'id; I have not heard it except from my father, from Ibn Numayr and Talhah ibn Abd al-Malik, a man from the people of Aylah. Abu Abd al-Rahman said: The hadith scholars said: This is not in Kufa; rather, this is from Ibn Numayr, from Ubaydullah, meaning al-Umari. So I said to them: Go to Abu Khaythamah, for their hearing in Kufa is only from Ibn Numayr. So they went and found him.

Before accepting Islam, there was no one on the face of the earth whose tent-dwellers I disliked more than yours, and now there is no one whose tent-dwellers I like to honor more than yours." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, it is exactly as you have said." Then Hind said, "O Messenger of Allah! Abu Sufyan is tight-fisted in spending money. It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the wife of Rifa’ah Qurzhi came to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I and Hazrat Abu Bakr were also present there. She said, "Rifa’ah has given me an irrevocable divorce, after which Abdur Rahman bin Zubair married me." Then she held a corner of her sheet and said, "He only has a corner like this." At that time, Khalid bin Saeed bin Aas was present at the door of the house; he was not allowed to enter, so he said from outside, "Abu Bakr! Why do you not stop this woman from speaking in such an exaggerated manner before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" However, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only smiled and then said, "Perhaps you wish to return to Rifa’ah? But this cannot happen until you taste his honey and he tastes your honey."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the wife of Hazrat Uthman bin Maz'un used to apply henna and was fragrant with perfume, but suddenly she abandoned all these things. One day she came to me in a disheveled state, so I asked her, "What is your condition?" She said, "My husband spends the nights in worship and fasts during the day." After a little while, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me, so I mentioned this matter to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) met her and said, "O Uthman! Monasticism has not been made obligatory upon us. Is there not a good example for you in my person? By Allah, I am the one who fears Allah the most among you and is most careful in guarding His limits."

Abd bin Zam'a said, "O Messenger of Allah! This is my brother, the son of my father's slave woman, and he was born on my father's bed." And Hazrat Sa'd was saying, "My brother made a will to me that when you reach Makkah Mukarramah, take the son of Zam'a's slave woman into your custody because he is my son." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at the child and saw a clear resemblance to Utbah. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "O Abd! It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to observe i'tikaf, he would enter the place of i'tikaf only after offering the morning prayer. Once, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned his intention to observe i'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan, so Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) asked him for permission to observe i'tikaf. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted her permission, so Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) ordered her tent to be set up, and it was set up. It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited (Qur'an) standing, he would also perform bowing (ruku') standing, and when he recited sitting, he would also perform bowing sitting.

Urwah says that once I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Allah Almighty has said: "Indeed, Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever performs Hajj of the House or Umrah, there is no sin upon him if he walks between them." Does this mean that if a person does not perform Sa'i between Safa and Marwah, there is no sin upon him? Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) replied, "Nephew! You have said something incorrect. If the verse meant what you have stated, then the verse would have been: 'there is no sin upon him if he does not walk between them.' In fact, the reason for the revelation of this verse is that before accepting Islam, people used to enter into Ihram for 'Manat' and worshipped it near Mushall. And whoever entered into Ihram considered Sa'i between Safa and Marwah to be a sin. Then they asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), 'O Messenger of Allah! In the days of ignorance, people used to consider Sa'i between Safa and Marwah a sin. What is its ruling now?' Upon this, Allah revealed this verse, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) established the practice of Sa'i between Safa and Marwah through his Sunnah. Therefore, now it is not correct for anyone to leave Sa'i between Safa and Marwah."

She replied: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer long prayers both standing and sitting. When he prayed standing, he would also bow (ruku) standing, and when he prayed sitting, he would also bow sitting. Then I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the voluntary fasts of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: Sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would fast so much that we would talk about it, and sometimes he would leave fasting to the extent that we would talk about it. And after coming to Madinah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not fast the entire month in any month except Ramadan.

I was having a headache, so I said, "Oh, my head!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) jokingly said, "I wish that what is to happen would happen during my lifetime, so that I could prepare you well and bury you." I said, "You mean something else; you would spend the night as a bridegroom with another woman that very day." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sought permission from his noble wives to spend the days of his illness in my house, and all of them granted permission. Thus, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out from there supported by Hazrat Abbas and another man (according to the narrator, he was Hazrat Ali, but Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) did not consider it necessary to mention his name). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying, "May Allah curse the Jews and Christians; they made the graves of their prophets places of prostration." Narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to my house, he said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." Hazrat Aisha submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! Abu Bakr is a soft-hearted man; he will not be able to control his tears, because whenever Abu Bakr recites the Holy Qur'an, he starts weeping." And I said this only so that people would not start saying about Abu Bakr that he was the first man to stand in the place of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and thus become sinful. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again said, "Tell Abu Bakr to lead the people in prayer." When I repeated it, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the same order and said, "You are like the women who were infatuated with Yusuf (Joseph) (who concealed something in their hearts and expressed something else with their tongues)."
