Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that sometimes when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would pray at night, I would be lying like a corpse between him and the Qiblah. Abu Umamah, who was sitting in that gathering with Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him), said, "O Abu Abdullah! Perhaps she said that I used to be at the Prophet’s side." Urwah said, "I am telling you with certainty, and you are rejecting it based on doubt. She indeed said that I used to be lying like a corpse in front of him."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray thirteen rak'ahs at night. Out of these, six rak'ahs were prayed two at a time, and the remaining five were made witr together, and he would end with salam while sitting.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting in the shade of "Umm Hissan" when a man came to the Prophet's presence and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I am burnt." The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, "What happened?" He replied, "I became intimate with my wife while fasting in the month of Ramadan." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Sit down." He went and sat in a corner. Meanwhile, a man came riding on a donkey, carrying a basket of dates. He said, "O Messenger of Allah! This is my charity." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Where is the one who was burnt?" He stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I am here." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Take this and give it as charity." He said, "O Messenger of Allah! Who else can I give charity to besides myself? By the One Who sent you with the truth, I find nothing for myself and my family." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Then you take it." So he took it.

Muhammad bin Abi Ubaid says that I performed Hajj with ‘Adi bin ‘Adi Kindi, so he sent me to Safiyyah, the daughter of Shaybah bin ‘Uthman, the keeper of the Ka‘bah, to ask her about some matters which she had heard from ‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Among the ahadith that Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated to me was this hadith: She heard ‘A’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) say: Divorce or emancipation given under compulsion does not take effect.

Narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that regarding the slain of Quraysh in the Battle of Badr, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that they be thrown into a pit, so they were thrown in, except for Umayyah bin Khalaf, whose body had swollen in his armor. The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) tried to move him but faced difficulty, so they left him there and covered him with earth and stones, etc. After throwing the rest into the pit, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood by them and said, "O people of the well! Did you find what your Lord promised you to be true? For I have found my Lord's promise to be true." The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said, "O Messenger of Allah! Are you speaking to the dead?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "By Allah, they know that I made a true promise to them." Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said that they know, and people say that they do not hear.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the people of Makkah sent ransom to free their captives, the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) daughter Hazrat Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) also sent wealth for her husband Abu al-As bin Rabi’, among which was the necklace that belonged to Hazrat Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) and which she had given to Hazrat Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) at the time of her marriage to Abu al-As. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw this necklace, he was deeply moved and said, “If you deem it appropriate, release Zainab’s captive and return the wealth she has sent to her.” The people said, “Yes, O Messenger of Allah!” So they released Abu al-As and returned Hazrat Zainab’s necklace to her.

Narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the news of the martyrdom of Hazrat Zaid bin Harithah and Abdur Rahman bin Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with them) came, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down on the ground and signs of grief were visible on his blessed face. I was peeking through a hole in the door when a man came and said, "O Messenger of Allah! The women of Ja'far are weeping." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Forbid them." The man went and after a short while returned and said, "I have forbidden them but they do not listen to me." This happened three times. Finally, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him, "Go and fill their mouths with dust." Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said to him, "May Allah fill you with dust! By Allah, you neither do what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commands you nor do you leave them alone."

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'minin Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that, except for one woman from Banu Qurayza, no one else was killed. She was sitting with me, talking and laughing, while outside the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was killing the men of her tribe. Suddenly, a man called her by name and said, "Where is such-and-such woman?" She replied, "By Allah! That is me." I said to her, "Alas! What is the matter?" She said, "I will be killed." I asked her, "Why?" She replied, "I did something." So she was taken away and her neck was struck. By Allah, I can never forget my amazement that she was so cheerful and laughing, even though she knew she would be killed.

It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen, Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) distributed the captives of Banu Mustaliq, Hazrat Juwayriya bint al-Harith came into the share of Thabit bin Qais bin Shamas or his cousin. Hazrat Juwayriya made a contract of emancipation (mukataba) with him. She was a very beautiful and attractive woman; whoever saw her would be captivated by her beauty. She came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to seek help in paying her contract of emancipation. By Allah, when I saw her standing at the door of my room, I felt uneasy, and I realized that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would also notice her beauty and charm. She entered and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I am Juwayriya bint al-Harith, who was the chief of his people. The calamity that has befallen me is not hidden from you. I have come into the share of Thabit bin Qais or his cousin, and I have made a contract of emancipation with him regarding myself. Now I have come to you seeking help in paying off my contract." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Shall I not tell you something better than that?" She said, "O Messenger of Allah! What is that?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "I will pay your contract and marry you." She agreed, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did so. Meanwhile, the news spread among the people that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had married Juwayriya. People began to say, "These are now the Prophet's in-laws," so they freed their slaves. Thus, due to the blessing of this marriage, a hundred families of Banu Mustaliq were set free. I do not know of any woman who brought greater blessing to her people than her.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that I have not seen a woman who cooked better food than Hazrat Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her). Once, she sent a dish to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in which there was food. I could not control myself and broke that dish. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) looked towards me, and I saw signs of anger on his blessed face. I said, "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I seek refuge in Allah that He may curse me today." Then I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! What is the expiation for this?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "A dish like the dish and food like the food."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that after arriving in Madinah Munawwarah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never ate his fill of wheat bread for three consecutive days, until he departed from this world.

Furwah bin Nawfal says that I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the supplication of the Prophet (peace be upon him), so she said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to supplicate: O Allah! I seek refuge in You from the evil of those things which my soul has done and which it has not done.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when a sick person was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he would recite this supplication: "O Lord of the people! Remove his suffering. Grant him healing, for You are the Healer. There is no healing except Your healing. Grant such a healing that leaves no trace of illness."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If a woman spends anything from her husband's house and does not intend corruption, then that woman will also receive its reward, and her husband will also receive the reward of his earning. The woman will receive the reward for spending, and the treasurer will also receive the same reward, and nothing will be diminished from their rewards.

Furwah bin Nawfal says that I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the supplication of the Prophet (peace be upon him), so she said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) used to supplicate: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of those things which my soul has done and which it has not done.

Abu Bakr bin Abdur Rahman says that Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that the fast of a person who is in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah) in the morning is not valid. I mentioned this to Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), and she said, "There is no basis for his statement. Sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would be in a state of janabah in the morning, then he would perform ghusl and complete the rest of the day's fast. Then Bilal would come and inform him of the prayer, and he would go out and lead the people in prayer while water would be dripping from his body."

Ibrahim says that I asked Aswad, "Did you ask Umm al-Mu'mineen, Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), about what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked making nabidh in?" He said, "Yes! I asked her this question and she replied that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade (making nabidh in) dubba' and muzaffat." I asked about "safun," so she said, "I have narrated what I heard, and I have not narrated what I did not hear."

Alqamah says that I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the voluntary prayers of the Prophet (peace be upon him). She replied, "Which of you has the strength that the Prophet (peace be upon him) had? However, remember that every action of the Prophet (peace be upon him) was consistent."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the last verses of Surah Al-Baqarah "which are related to usury" were revealed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited them in the mosque and also declared the trade of alcohol to be forbidden.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to remember Allah at all times.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whenever a Muslim is afflicted with a thorn prick or a calamity even less than that, Allah raises his rank by one degree and forgives one of his sins in exchange for it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform the Asr prayer at a time when the sunlight had not yet left my chamber.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that sometimes when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) slaughtered a goat, he would send it as a gift to the friends of Hazrat Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her).

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to observe i'tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: My Lord has commanded me to give glad tidings to Hazrat Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) of a magnificent house made of wood in Paradise.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The lizard is a disobedient animal."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to sleep or eat something in a state requiring ghusl, he would perform ablution as for prayer.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A woman is like a rib; if you try to straighten her, you will break her, but you can benefit from her with her crookedness.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whenever a Muslim is afflicted with a thorn prick or any hardship even less than that, his sins are forgiven in exchange for it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that mosques be made in the houses and that they be kept clean and pure.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that I did not feel as much jealousy towards any woman as I felt towards Hazrat Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her), and the reason for this jealousy was that I used to hear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mention her frequently.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding the woman "who, after becoming pure from her menstruation, sees something that puts her in doubt," that this is blood from a vein.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer two rak'ahs between the call to Fajr prayer and the (Fajr) prayer itself.

Masruq says that I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), "Which deed was most beloved to the Prophet (peace be upon him)?" She replied, "That which is done consistently." I asked, "At what time during the night did the Prophet (peace be upon him) stand (in prayer)?" She replied, "When he heard the crowing of the rooster."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spent the night in seclusion with one of his wives and slept while in a state requiring ghusl (ritual bath). When morning came, he performed ghusl and kept the fast of that day.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to kiss her while he was fasting.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform ablution with about one mudd of water and would perform ghusl with about one sa’ of water.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The black dog is a devil.

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that I used to scrape off the traces of semen from the clothes of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that (I used to apply the best perfume available with me to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and it is as if that scene is still before my eyes that in the state of Ihram, I was seeing the shine of musk on the head of the Prophet (peace be upon him)).
