It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that we had a mat which we used to spread out during the day and at night we would cover ourselves with it. Once, at night, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was praying; the people of the mosque found out and mentioned it to others the next day. Consequently, many people gathered the following night. Seeing this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take upon yourselves only as many deeds as you are able to bear, for Allah will not tire, but you surely will. And it was the practice of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that when he started a prayer, he would remain steadfast in it, and to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the most beloved deed was that which was done consistently."

Abdullah bin Shaqiq reports: I asked Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the voluntary prayers of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so she said: In the night prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray for a long time and would sit for quite a while. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite, bow, and prostrate while standing, and he would also recite, bow, and prostrate while sitting.
Masruq says that once I was sitting reclining at the home of Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her). I asked her, "Does Allah not say, 'Indeed, the Messenger saw him clearly at the edge of the sky' and that 'The Messenger saw him descending another time as well'?" She replied, "I was the first to ask the Prophet (peace be upon him) about this, and he said that it refers to Hazrat Jibreel (Gabriel), whom I saw in his true form only twice. Once, I saw him descending from the sky, and his great physical form filled the space between the sky and the earth."
It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that if the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were to conceal any verse from the revelation that was sent down to him, he would have concealed this verse "which was related to his own self": "And remember when you were saying to the one upon whom Allah had bestowed favor and you had bestowed favor, 'Keep your wife with you and fear Allah,' while you were concealing within yourself that which Allah was to disclose, and you were fearing the people, whereas Allah has more right that you should fear Him." And Allah's command is sure to be fulfilled."

It is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that in Makkah Mukarramah, the initial obligation of prayer was in the form of two rak‘ahs each. But when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached Madinah Munawwarah, by the command of Allah, two rak‘ahs were added to each prayer, except for Maghrib prayer, as it is the witr of the day, and Fajr prayer, as its recitation is lengthy. However, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would travel, he would perform only two rak‘ahs for each prayer, according to the initial method.

I was among this last group. Upon reaching Makkah, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever among you has assumed Ihram for Umrah and brought the sacrificial animal with him, he should perform the Tawaf of the House of Allah and the Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and should not consider anything from the prohibited things as lawful for himself until he has offered the sacrifice on the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah and completed the Hajj. And whoever has not brought the sacrificial animal, he should perform Tawaf and Sa’i and become lawful (i.e., come out of Ihram), and later assume Ihram for Hajj and bring the sacrificial animal. Whoever does not find a sacrificial animal should fast three days during the days of Hajj and seven days after returning home. And the most beloved prayer to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was that which was performed regularly, even if it was little in amount. It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'mineen Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that, by Allah, sometimes a whole month would pass over the family of Muhammad (peace be upon him) in such a way that no fire would be lit in any of the houses of the Prophet (peace be upon him), except that a little meat might come from somewhere, and for our sustenance there were only two things: water and dates. However, there were some households of the Ansar living around us—may Allah reward them with goodness—who used to send the milk of their goat to the Prophet (peace be upon him) every day, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) would drink it.
