Musnad Ahmad

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that even barley bread would not remain with the family of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: By the blessing of the intercession of just one man—who will not be a prophet—people equal to the number of the tribes of Rabi’ah and Mudar, or equal to one tribe, will enter Paradise. A man asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Is Rabi’ah not a part of the tribe of Mudar?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "I only say what I am commanded to say."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: Jibreel (peace be upon him) advised me so many times regarding the neighbor that I began to think he would also make him an heir.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once took hold of his hand and said, "O Abu Umamah! That person is among the believers whose heart becomes gentle for my sake."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever takes responsibility for the affairs of ten or more people will be presented before Allah on the Day of Resurrection in such a state that his hands will be tied to his neck, which only his good deeds will be able to untie, otherwise his sins will destroy him. The beginning of governance is reproach, its middle is regret, and its end on the Day of Resurrection will be disgrace.

Khalid bin Ma'dan says that once we were present at the invitation of Abdul A'la bin Bilal. After finishing the meal, Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said, "I have stood here, but I am neither a preacher nor have I stood up with the intention of giving a speech. However, I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) recite this supplication after finishing the meal: 'Alhamdulillah katheeran tayyiban mubaarakan feehi ghayra makfiyyin wa laa muwadda'in wa laa mustaghna anhu.' Khalid says that Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) repeated these words so many times that we memorized them."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once he went to Khalid bin Yazid. Khalid presented a cushion for him. Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) thought that it was a silk cushion, so he turned back and walked to the end of the row. Khalid was engaged in conversation with another man. After a while, he saw Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said, "Brother! What did you think? Do you think this is a silk cushion?" He replied, "The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'The person who hopes to meet Allah cannot benefit from silk.'" Khalid asked, "O Abu Umamah! Did you really hear the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say this?" He replied, "May Allah forgive! This question, 'Did you hear this hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?'—we lived among a people who neither lied to us nor did we lie to them."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has promised me that He will admit seventy thousand people from my Ummah into Paradise without reckoning, and with every thousand there will be an additional seventy thousand, and on top of that there will be a further threefold increase.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever performs ablution and sets out for the obligatory prayer, he receives the reward equal to that of a pilgrim in the state of ihram. Whoever sets out for the Duha (forenoon) prayer, he receives the reward equal to that of one performing Umrah. And performing one prayer after another in such a way that no vain act occurs in between is written in ‘Illiyyin. And Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that going to these mosques morning and evening is a part of striving in the way of Allah.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a companion (may Allah be pleased with him) reports from him that he saw the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the eighth of Dhul-Hijjah going towards Mina. On one side of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was Hazrat Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), in his hand was a stick on which there was a cloth, and he was shading the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: No human being has been granted permission regarding anything better than what has been granted regarding the two rak‘ahs which he performs, and as long as a person remains engaged in prayer, goodness continues to be showered upon his head, and a person does not attain closeness to Allah by anything like the closeness attained through the speech that comes from Him, that is, the Qur’an.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty has sent me as a mercy and guidance for the people of the world, and He has commanded me to eradicate musical instruments, drums, instruments of amusement and play, and all those idols that were worshipped in the time of ignorance. And my Lord, swearing by His honor, has said: Whoever among My servants drinks even a single sip of wine, I will surely make him drink scalding water of Hell in exchange for it, whether he is kept in punishment or is forgiven afterwards. And if even a minor child is given a single sip of it, I will surely make him drink scalding water of Hell in exchange for it, whether he is kept in punishment or is forgiven afterwards. And whoever among My servants leaves it out of fear of Me, I will make him drink of My pure wine. And the buying and selling of singing women, teaching them music, and trading in them is not permissible, and their price is forbidden.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The Beast of the Earth will emerge and it will mark people on their faces, and they will remain alive with that mark, to the extent that if a man buys a camel and someone asks him, "From whom did you buy this camel?" he will reply, "I bought it from the person whose face is marked."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The one who visits a sick person immerses himself in the ocean of Allah’s mercy. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand on his side and said: He moves back and forth in this way, and when he sits by the sick person, Allah’s mercy covers him.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) washed his face and hands three times each while performing ablution, wiped his head, and said that the ears are part of the head. He also said that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to rub the circles of his eyes with his fingers.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman came to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) with her child, carrying him, to ask for something. Whatever she asked from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he gave it to her. Then he said: "How merciful these mothers are to their children whom they carry! If it were not for what they do with their husbands, then their women who pray would enter Paradise."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Modesty and harmless speech are two branches of faith, while obscene talk and unnecessary speech are two branches of hypocrisy.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that in the beginning, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform nine rak'ahs of Witr. Later, when the blessed body of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became heavy, he started making Witr with seven rak'ahs. And the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform two rak'ahs sitting after Witr, and in them he would recite Surah Zalzalah and Surah Kafiroon.

Safwan bin Salim says that Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) entered Damascus and saw the heads of the Khawarij hanging. He said three times, "They are the dogs of Hell. Under the shade of the sky, they are the worst of those killed, and under the shade of the sky, the best of those killed was the one whom they martyred." And he began to weep. After a little while, when he returned, someone asked, "O Abu Umamah! This statement of yours, 'dogs of Hell,' did you hear it from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) or are you saying it from your own opinion?" He replied, "Subhan Allah! If I had heard something from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) up to seven times and then omitted the mention of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in between, I would be very bold indeed." He was asked, "Then why were you weeping?" He replied, "Because these people have gone out of Islam, and these are the very people who created division and split their religion into different groups."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw a man praying alone and said, "Is there anyone who will give charity to him, that is, join him in prayer?" Upon hearing this, a man stood up and began to pray with him. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "These two have become a congregation."

Hisham ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Yahya ibn Ayyub, from Ubayd Allah ibn Zahr, from Ali ibn Yazid, from al-Qasim, from Abu Umamah, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, something similar, and he said: "These two are a group."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Whoever initiates the greeting of peace is closer to Allah and His Messenger.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Four types of people continue to receive reward even after their death: (one) a person who performed a good deed whose effect continues, (two) a person who gave ongoing charity, (three) a person who left behind righteous children who pray for him.

Hassan narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us from Khalid ibn Abi Imran from Abu Umamah from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he mentioned it except that he said: "And whoever teaches knowledge, the like of what he taught will be written for him."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A group from my Ummah will always remain dominant and steadfast on the religion. They will prevail over their enemies and will not care about those who oppose them or those who abandon them, except if they are afflicted with some hardship, until Allah's command comes, and they will remain in this state." The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Where will these people be?" The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "In Bayt al-Maqdis and its surroundings."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), "Which charity is the best?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, "Providing shade of a tent in the way of Allah, or serving a warrior for the sake of Allah, or letting someone ride a male animal for the sake of Allah."

The last hadith of Abu Umamah, may Allah the Exalted be pleased with him.
