Musnad Ahmad 17136 — Hadith of Shaddad ibn Aws
حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنَا قَزَعَةُ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي حُمَيْدٌ الْأَعْرَجُ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ مَحْمُودِ بْنِ لَبِيدٍ ، عَنْ شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " إِذَا حَضَرْتُمْ مَوْتَاكُمْ ، فَأَغْمِضُوا الْبَصَرَ ، فَإِنَّ الْبَصَرَ يَتْبَعُ الرُّوحَ ، وَقُولُوا خَيْرًا فَإِنَّهُ يُؤَمَّنُ عَلَى مَا قَالَ أَهْلُ الْمَيِّتِ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Shaddad bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you go to your dead, close their eyes, for the eyes follow the soul (that is why they remain open), and speak good words, for whatever the family of the deceased says, the angels say Ameen to it."
