Musnad Ahmad 15315 — Musnad of Hakim ibn Hizam from the Prophet
(حديث مرفوع) حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سعيد ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ يُوسُفَ بْنِ مَاهَكَ ، عَنْ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ ، قَالَ : قُلْتُ : يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، يُطْلَبُ مِنِّي الْمَتَاعُ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدِي ، أَفَأَبِيعُهُ لَهُ ؟ قَالَ : " لَا تَبِعْ مَا لَيْسَ عِنْدَكَ " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hakeem that once I submitted in the court of Prophethood: O Messenger of Allah! A man comes to me and wants to buy something from me, but at that time I do not have that thing. Can I buy it from the market and sell it to him? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not sell that which you do not possess.
