باب لاَ تَتَحَرَّوْا بِصَلاَتِكُمْ طُلُوعَ الشَّمْسِ وَلاَ غُرُوبَهَا:

Sahih Muslim 833 — Do not aim to pray when the sun is rising
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : وَهِمَ عُمَرُ ، إِنَّمَا " نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُتَحَرَّى طُلُوعُ الشَّمْسِ وَغُرُوبُهَا " .
'A'isha reported that 'Umar misconstrued the fact that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) had prohibited the observance of prayer at the time of the rising sun and at the time of its setting.

وحَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ الْحُلْوَانِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ ، عَنْ ابْنِ طَاوُسٍ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ : لَمْ يَدَعْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ ، قَالَ : فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لَا تَتَحَرَّوْا طُلُوعَ الشَّمْسِ وَلَا غُرُوبَهَا ، فَتُصَلُّوا عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ " .
'A'isha said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) did not abandon observing two rak'ahs after 'Asr, but she reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Do not get used to observe prayer at the time of the rising sun and at the time of its setting and (exhorted the Muslims) to pray at their times.

Hadith Commentary: Benefits and Issues: The view of Aisha (radi Allahu anha) was that it is permissible to perform prayer after ‘Asr, because the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) used to perform two units (rak‘ahs) of prayer at her home after ‘Asr. However, it is not permissible to intentionally and deliberately perform prayer at the time of sunset. As for Umar (radi Allahu anhu), he used to prohibit people from praying after ‘Asr, because he said that if people are permitted at this time, they will begin to pray at the time of sunset.
