Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah

Hazrat Abu Dharr narrates that I presented myself in the service of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was sitting in the mosque. I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Who was the first prophet?" He replied, "Hazrat Adam." I asked, "Was he a prophet?" He replied, "Yes, he was a prophet to whom words were spoken."

Hazrat Hammam narrates that the first compensation ever taken on earth happened in this way: An old woman took her flour in a basket and left her house. Meanwhile, a wind came and blew away her flour. Hazrat Sulaiman ordered that the sea be searched to find out who sent this wind, and compensation for her flour be taken from them.

Hazrat Malik bin Ayman narrates that when Ibrahim (peace be upon him) got his first white hair, he asked his Lord, "O my Lord! What is this?" Allah Almighty replied, "This is dignity and forbearance."

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that on the Day of Judgment, Ibrahim will be the first to be clothed with two Coptic garments, and then the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) will be clothed with a pair, and he (peace be upon him) will be on the right side of the Throne.

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, Ibrahim will be clothed before all of creation.

Hazrat Abu Ishaq says that Hazrat Qatham was asked how Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) became the spiritual heir of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instead of you. He replied that he met the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) before us and had a closer relationship with him than we did.

It is narrated from Hazrat Anas that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, will say on the Day of Resurrection: "Go to Noah, he is the first messenger sent to the people of the earth."

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while mentioning the conditions of the Day of Judgment, said that people will go to Hazrat Adam, and he will say, "Go to Noah." People will say to him, "O Noah! You are the first messenger sent to the people of the earth."

Hazrat Urwah states that the first person to draw a sword in the path of Allah was Hazrat Zubair.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that when the initial verses of Surah Al-Muzzammil were revealed, at that time the companions used to stand (in prayer) at night for as long as they would stand during the month of Ramadan. There was a year between its beginning and end.

Hazrat Ka'b used to say that the first to be ruined among the cities are the two wings of the cities. Someone asked him, "What are the two wings of the cities?" He replied, "Basra and Kufa."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The first to deny was Hazrat Adam.

Hazrat Ata states that the first person to administer an oath regarding Qasamah was Hazrat Umar bin Khattab.

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Rabee’ah says that in Kufa, the first elegy was recited for Qarzah bin Ka’b.

Hazrat Asma bint Yazid narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the mother of Sa’d bin Mu’adh: “Why do your tears not dry and why does your grief not lessen! Your son is the first person for whom Allah smiled and the Throne of Allah shook.”

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: On the Day of Resurrection, Ibrahim will be the first to be clothed.

Hazrat Saeed bin Jubair says that on the Day of Resurrection, when people will be raised, they will be naked and barefoot, and the first to be clothed will be Ibrahim.

Hazrat Abu Amr Shaibani says that the battle of Mehran took place at the beginning of the year and the battle of Qadisiyyah at the end of the year.

Hazrat Mujahid, in the commentary of the verse { کَمَا بَدَأْنَا أَوَّلَ خَلْقٍ نُعِیدُہُ } of the Holy Quran, states that it means that on the Day of Judgment, people will be barefoot and naked.

Hazrat Mujahid, in the commentary of the verse { فِی الصُّحُفِ الأُولَی } of the Holy Quran, states that it refers to the Torah and the Gospel.

Hazrat Uthman says that Surah Al-Anfal was among the earliest surahs revealed in Madinah Munawwarah, and Surah At-Tawbah is among the last surahs revealed in the Holy Qur'an.

Hazrat Salman Farsi says that in this Ummah, the first person to join the Prophet of this Ummah and the first to accept Islam is Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hazrat Abu Duhā narrates that Hazrat Abu Bakr requested Ma‘di Karib to recite poetry and said to him that I have never requested anyone to recite poetry before you.

Hazrat Mujahid, in the commentary of the verse { فِی الصُّحُفِ الأُولَی } of the Holy Quran, states that it refers to the Torah and the Gospel.

Hazrat Abu Salamah, regarding the expiation of an oath, says that it is one mudd along with the first mudd.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Salam says that when Hazrat Adam denied, his offspring also denied. And that was the first day on which witnesses were commanded.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Hazrat Adam was performing Tawaf of the Kaaba when the angels met him and said, "O Adam! Have you performed Hajj?" He replied, "Yes." The angels said, "We performed Hajj two thousand years before you."

Hazrat Qais narrates that I saw Shumr bin Atiyyah ask for a turban. A Sabri turban was brought to him, but he returned it and said, "I saw that when people first saw Sabri, they burned it."

It is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: After idol worship and drinking wine, Allah Almighty has forbidden me and taken a covenant from me regarding mutual fighting and abusive language among men.

Ibrahim says that the villagers were the first to recite Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Raheem aloud.

Hazrat Dahhak says that people have invented the night prayer of Ramadan, the Duha prayer, Qunoot in Fajr, and storytelling.

Hazrat Mujahid says that the Eid prayer used to be held at the beginning of the day.

Hazrat Abbas bin Abdur Rahman Hashimi narrates that the first incident of applying perfume in mosques occurred when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw spit on the Qibla side of the mosque. He had it cleaned and then ordered that perfume be applied to that spot. After that, people began to apply perfume in the mosque.

Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that the very first Friday prayer was offered in Madinah, and then Friday prayer was performed in Bahrain.

It is narrated from Hazrat Sa'd that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, appointed Hazrat Abdullah bin Jahsh as a leader; he is the first leader to be appointed in Islam.

Hazrat Anas bin Hakeem Dubi narrates that Hazrat Abu Hurairah said to me: When you go to your townspeople, tell them that I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: On the Day of Judgment, the first thing for which a servant will be held accountable is the obligatory prayer.

It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The first three people of my Ummah who will be presented to me who will enter Paradise, and the three people who will be presented who will enter Hell, were shown to me. Of the three who will enter Paradise, one is a martyr, the second is a slave whose service to his master did not distract him from obedience to his Lord, and the third is a poor man with dependents who does not ask anything from anyone. And of the three who will enter Hell, one is an oppressive ruler, the second is a wealthy person who does not pay Allah’s due from his wealth, and the third is an arrogant poor person.

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I heard a hadith from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) which I have not forgotten since then. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that among the signs of the Day of Judgment are the rising of the sun from the west and the emergence of the Beast of the Earth upon the people at forenoon. Whichever of these appears first, the other will appear immediately after it.

It is narrated from Hazrat Jabir that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The first usury which I declare to be forgiven is the usury of Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib."

It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praised Allah Almighty with the praise and glorification that He is worthy of, then said: O people! Every blood of the days of ignorance is abolished. The first blood (to be abolished) is the blood of Iyas bin Rabi’ah bin Harith. He used to nurse a child among the Banu Laith, and he was killed by Huzail. And the first usury of the days of ignorance that is abolished is the usury of Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib. This is the first usury that I forgive. For you is your full wealth; neither do you wrong others, nor will you be wronged.
